Headliner Removal/Installation

SRS components are located in this are. Review the SRS component locations LHD, SRS components locations RHD and the precautions and procedures in the SRS section before performing repairs or service.

NOTE:

When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape to prevent damage.
Take care not to bend and scratch the headliner.
Be careful not to damage the dashboard and other interior trim.

1.	Remove these items: Front pillar trim, both sides. Ceiling light. Front seat belt upper anchor, both sides. Center pillar lower trim Center pillar upper trim, both sides. Rear pillar trim, both sides.

2.	From both sides, using a flat-tip screwdriver, release the tabs (A), then remove the sunvisor cap (B) from the bracket (C). Turn the cap, and remove it. ABCAA

From both sides, remove the sunvisor (A) and holder (B).

-1	Remove the self-tapping ET screws.
-2	Remove the sunvisor from the body and holder.
-3	If equipped, disconnect the vanity mirror light connector (C).
-4	Using a flat-tip screwdriver, push the hook (D), and turn the holder 90°, then pull it out.

Lower the roof console (A).

-1	Remove the lens (B).
-2	With U/S intrusion sensor: Pry up on the front edge of the roof console trim (C) with a flat-tip screwdriver wrapped with protective tape to release the hooks (D), then remove the cover.
-3	Remove the bolts (E), then pull out the front individual map light (F).
-4	Remove the bolts (G), and if equipped, disconnect the U/S intrusion sensor connector (H).

Without U/S intrusion sensor:

5.	Pass the individual map light (A) through the opening in the roof console (B), then remove the roof console. AB

6.	Lower the grab handle, then pry out the lid (A). Remove the self-tapping ET screws, then remove the grab handle (B). Remove the remaining grab handles. Fastener Locations: Screw, 8AB5 x 0.8 mm 3.4 N·m (0.35 kgf·m, 2.5 lbf·ft)

With sunroof: Remove the headliner.

-1	Remove the socket plug (A).
-2	Remove the front door opening trim (B) and rear door opening trim (C) from each roof portion.
-3	Detach the clip (D), and release the fasteners (E) by pulling the front portion of the headliner (F) down.
-4	With the help of an assistant, detach the rear clips (G) by pulling the rear portion of the headliner down, release the headliner from the sunroof frame (H) by sliding the headliner rearward, and lowering the headliner.
-5	Remove the headliner through the front passenger's door opening.

Without sunroof: Remove the headliner.

-1	Remove the front door opening trim (A) and rear door opening trim (B) from each roof portion.
-2	With the help of an assistant, detach the rear clips (D) by pulling the rear portion of headliner down, and lowering the headliner.
-3	Remove the cushion tape (E), then remove the roof harness (F) from the headliner.
-4	Remove the headliner through the front passenger's door opening.

LHD:

9.	If necessary, remove the bolts, then remove the front grab handle bracket (A) and rear grab handle bracket (B) from each side by releasing the hooks (C). Fastener Locations: Bolt, 6CForwardCA5 x 0.8 mm 5 N·m (0.5 kgf·m, 4 lbf·ft)5 x 0.8 mm 5 N·m (0.5 kgf·m, 4 lbf·ft)ForwardCCB

10.	If necessary, detach the hooks (A) and the clip (B), then remove the front roof side pad (C) and rear roof side pad (D). Fastener Locations: Hook, 9ForwardAForwardAAAABAAAAAC

11.	With sunroof: If necessary, pull down the roof console bracket (A) to release the clip. Fastener Location: Clip, 1A

Install the headliner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

When reinstalling the headliner through the door opening, be careful not to fold or bend it. Also, be careful not to scratch the body.
If the threads on a visor and grab handle screws are worn out, use an oversized self-tapping ET screw made specifically for this application:

Visor: P/N 90137-S30-0030
Grab handle: P/N 90137-S0A-0030
Check that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the trim.
Make sure the top of the pillar trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
