Headliner Removal/Installation

SRS components are located in this are. Review the SRS component locations, and the precautions and procedures before performing repairs or service.

NOTE:

1.Remove these items:


2.From both sides, using a flat-tip screwdriver, release the tabs (A), then remove the sunvisor cap (B) from the bracket (C). Turn the cap, and remove it.

3.From both sides, remove the sunvisor (A) and holder (B).

-1 Remove the self-tapping ET screws.
-2 Remove the sunvisor from the body and holder.
-3 If equipped, disconnect the vanity mirror light connector (C).
-4 Using a flat-tip screwdriver, push the hook (D), and turn the holder 90°, then pull it out.

4.Lower the roof console (A).

-1 Remove the lens (B).
-2 With U/S intrusion sensor: Pry up on the front edge of the roof console trim (C) with a flat-tip screwdriver wrapped with protective tape to release the hooks (D), then remove the cover.
-3 Remove the bolts (E), then pull out the front individual map light (F).
-4 Remove the bolts (G), and if equipped, disconnect the U/S intrusion sensor connector (H).


Without U/S intrusion sensor:

With U/S intrusion sensor:

5.Pass the individual map light (A) through the opening in the roof console (B), then remove the roof console.

6.Lower the grab handle, then pry out the lid (A). Unscrew the self-tapping ET screws to remove the grab handle (B). Remove the remaining grab handles. Do not remove a toothed washer (C) and a washer (D) on the ET screw.

7.Pry up on the lids (A) and remove the screws, then remove the cargo net hook covers (B) from each side (four places).

8.With sunroof: Remove the headliner.

-1 Remove the socket plug (A).
-2 Remove the front door opening trim (B) and rear door opening trim (C) from each roof portion.
-3 Release the fasteners (D) by pulling the front portion of the headliner (E) down.
-4 With the help of an assistant, release the clip, detach the fasteners (F) by pulling the rear portion of the headliner down, then release the headliner from the sunroof frame (H) by sliding the headliner rearward, and lowering the headliner.
-5 Remove the headliner through the front passenger's door opening.

9.Without sunroof: Remove the headliner.

-1 Remove the front door opening trim (A) and rear door opening trim (B) from each roof portion.
-2 With the help of an assistant, release the clip (C), detach the fasteners (D) by pulling the rear portion of the headliner (E) down, and lowering the headliner.
-3 Remove the cushion tape (F), then remove the roof harness (G) from the headliner.
-4 Remove the headliner through the front passenger's door opening.

10.If necessary, remove the bolts securing the cargo net hook (A), then remove it.

11.With sunroof: If necessary, pull down the roof console bracket (A) to release the clip.

12.Install the headliner in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

  • When reinstalling the headliner through the door opening, be careful not to fold or bend it. Also, be careful not to scratch the body.
  • If the threads on a visor and grab handle screws are worn out, use an oversized self-tapping ET screw made specifically for this application:

    Visor: P/N 90137-S30-0030
    Grab handle: P/N 90137-S0A-0030

  • Check that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the trim.
  • Make sure the top of the pillar trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
