Tailgate Latch Replacement

NOTE: Put on gloves to protect your hands.

With Power Tailgate


NOTE: If the tailgate latch doesn't open by pulling the tailgate handle or using the keyless entry transmitter, remove the maintenance lid (A) from the tailgate lower trim panel, then turn the emergency lever (B) clockwise as shown.

1.Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

NOTE: If you remove the tailgate latch with the battery negative cable still in plugged, the vehicle falls into the failure mode.

2.Remove the tailgate lower trim panel.

3.Disconnect the tailgate latch connector (A).

4.Remove the bolts (B, C), and pull the tailgate latch (D) out, then remove it.

5.Install the latch in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

NOTE: If the tailgate latch doesn't be unlocked by using the keyless entry transmitter or unlocking the driver's door lock, remove the maintenance lid (A) from the tailgate lower trim panel, then unlock the tailgate latch by turning the pivot of the lever clockwise as shown with a flat-tip screwdriver.

1.Remove the tailgate lower trim panel.

2.Disconnect the tailgate opener cable from the tailgate handle.

3.Disconnect the tailgate latch switch connector (A) and tailgate actuator connector(s) (B).

With security switch:

4.Remove the bolts, and pull the tailgate latch (C) out, then remove it.

5.With security switch: If necessary, remove the screw, then remove the protector cover (A) from the latch (B).

6.Install the latch in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

  • Make sure each connector is plugged in properly, and the cable is connected properly.
  • Make sure the tailgate opens properly and locks securely.
