NOTE: Take care not to scratch the tailgate and not to bend the bracket.

1.Disconnect the negative battery cable.

NOTE: If you remove the touch sensor with the battery negative cable still in plugged, the vehicle falls into the failure mode.

2.Remove the maintenance lid (A).

3.Remove the upper tailgate touch sensor (A).

-1 Disconnect the sensor connector (B).
-2 Remove the mounting bolt (C), screws (D), and clip (E).
-3 Remove the upper tailgate touch sensor and grommet (F) from the tailgate, then pull the harness out.

4.Remove the lower tailgate touch sensor (A).

-1 Disconnect the sensor connector (B).
-2 Remove the mounting bolt (C) and clip (D).
-3 Remove the lower tailgate touch sensor and grommet (E) from the tailgate, then pull the harness out.

5.Install the sensor in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
