DTC Troubleshooting: P0963 (16-4)

DTC P0963:  Problem in A/T Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Valve A


NOTE:

1.Clear the DTC in CLEAR MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS.

2.Check that DTC P0963 recurs.

Is DTC P0963 indicated?


YES - Go to 6.


NO - Go to 3.


3.Select P CTRL SOL CONTROL in MISC. TEST MENU, then select P. CONTROL SOL A in P CTRL SOL CTRL MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS.

4.Drive the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A with 0.2 A in SOL A CONTROL menu.

5.Check the OBD STATUS in DTCs MENU for a pass/fail test of code P0963.

Did the result fail?


YES - Go to 6.


NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the tester indicates NOT COMPLETE, return to step 3 and recheck.n


6.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

7.Disconnect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A connector.

8.Measure A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A resistance at the solenoid connector.

Is there about 3-10 W?


YES - Go to 9.


NO - Replace the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A. After replacing the solenoid valve, go to 10, and check that the repair has been completed.


9.Check for continuity between the No. 2 terminal of the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A connector and body ground.

Is there continuity?


YES - Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM.n


NO - Repair open in the wire between the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A and ground (G101), or repair poor ground (G101).n

10.Clear the DTC in CLEAR MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS.

11.Test-drive the vehicle for several minutes under the same conditions as those indicated by the freeze data.

12.Check the OBD STATUS in DTCs MENU for a pass/fail test of code P0963.

Did the result pass?


YES - The problem has been corrected.n


NO - Return to step 1 and recheck.n
