1. INSPECT VANE PUMP SHAFT BEARING

N000372E01
  1. Using a micrometer, measure the height, thickness and length of the plate.

    Minimum:
    Item
    Length
    Height
    7.6 mm (0.299 in.)
    Thickness
    1.405 mm (0.0553 in.)
    Length
    11.993 mm (0.4722 in.)

    R010282E02
  1. Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance between the rotor groove and plate.

    Maximum clearance:
    0.025 mm (0.0010 in.)

    1. R015645E01
If the clearance is greater than the maximum, replace the plate and/or rotor with one that has the same mark as the cam ring.

    Inscribed mark:
    1, 2, 3, 4 or None

    HINT:
There are 5 vane plate lengths with the following rotor and cam ring marks:

    Standard:
    Rotor and Cam Ring Mark
    Vane Plate Part No.
    Vane Plate Length
    None
    44345-06110
    12.001 to 12.003 mm (0.47248 to 0.47256 in.)
    1
    44345-06120
    11.999 to 12.000 mm (0.47240 to 0.47244 in.)
    2
    44345-06130
    11.997 to 11.998 mm (0.47232 to 0.47236 in.)
    3
    44345-06140
    11.995 to 11.996 mm (0.47224 to 0.47228 in.)
    4
    44345-06150
    11.993 to 11.994 mm (0.47216 to 0.47220 in.)

2. INSPECT FLOW CONTROL VALVE

F012757E01
  1. Coat the valve with power steering fluid and check that it falls smoothly into the valve hole by its own weight.

    1. If necessary, replace the vane pump assembly.

    W002082E01
    F012758E01
  1. Check the flow control valve for leakage. Close either hole A or B and apply 392 to 490 kPa (4 to 5 kgf/cm2, 57 to 71 psi) of compressed air into the opposite side. Confirm that air does not come out from hole C.
If air leaks from hole C, replace the vane pump assembly.
If necessary, replace the valve with one that has the same mark as the front housing.

    Inscribed mark:
    A, B, C, D, E or F

3. INSPECT FLOW CONTROL VALVE COMPRESSION SPRING

R008702E01
  1. Using a vernier caliper, measure the free length of the spring.

    Minimum free length:
    29.2 mm (1.150 in.)

If the length is less than the minimum, replace the vane pump assembly.

4. INSPECT PRESSURE PORT UNION
  1. If the union seat in the pressure port union is severely damaged, it may cause fluid leakage. If damaged, replace the vane pump assembly.
