AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY > REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.



2. REMOVE NO. 2 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and frame crossmember.



3. DISCONNECT HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR


4. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE

  1. Remove the exhaust pipe (Click here).



5. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
Remove front propeller shaft assembly (Click here).


6. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT WITH CENTER BEARING ASSEMBLY
Remove the propeller shaft with center bearing assembly (Click here).


7. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID

  1. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain ATF.

  1. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

    Torque:
    28 N*m{ 285 kgf*cm , 21 ft.*lbf }



8. REMOVE MANIFOLD STAY

  1. Remove the 3 bolts and manifold stay.



9. REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY

  1. Remove the 3 bolts and manifold stay.



10. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

  1. Remove the 6 nuts, exhaust manifold and gasket.



11. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

  1. Remove the 6 nuts, exhaust manifold and gasket.



12. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE

  1. Using SST, disconnect the tube outlet and tube inlet.

  1. Remove the 2 bolts and 2 clamps.



13. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the nut and disconnect the control cable.

  1. Remove the clip and disconnect the control cable.



14. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET

  1. Remove the 2 bolts and control cable bracket from the transmission.



15. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

  1. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.



16. REMOVE NO. 3 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the 4 set bolts of the No. 1 engine mounting insulator rear.

  1. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and frame crossmember.



17. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR REAR

  1. Remove the 4 bolts and engine mounting insulator rear from the automatic transmission.



18. DISCONNECT CONNECTOR

  1. Tilt the transmission downward.

    NOTICE:
    Make sure the cooling fan does not contact the fan shroud.

  1. Transmission side:
    Disconnect the connectors.

    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.

    2. Disconnect the transmission wire connector.

    3. Disconnect the 3 speed sensor connectors.



19. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS


20. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the starter assembly (Click here).



21. REMOVE FLYWHEEL HOUSING SIDE COVER

  1. Remove the flywheel housing side cover from the cylinder block.



22. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

  1. Turn the crankshaft to gain access to each bolt.

  1. Hold the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench and remove the 6 torque converter clutch mounting bolts.

  1. Remove the 9 bolts.

  1. Separate and remove the automatic transmission assembly.



23. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
