1. INSTALL 2ND BRAKE PISTON

  1. Coat 2 new O-rings with ATF, and install them on the 2nd brake piston.

  1. Being careful not to damage the O-rings, and press the 2nd brake piston into the 2nd brake drum with both hands.



2. INSTALL 2ND BRAKE PISTON RETURN SPRING

  1. Install the piston return spring.

  1. Install the spring retainer.

  1. Place SST on the spring retainer, and compress the return spring with a press.

    NOTICE:
    1. Do not deform the spring sheet. Stop compressing when the spring sheet is lowered to 1 to 2 mm (0.039 to 0.078 in.) from the snap ring groove.
    2. Do not expand the snap ring excessively.

  1. Using a snap ring expander, install the snap ring.



3. INSPECT 2ND BRAKE PISTON

  1. Make sure the 2nd brake piston moves smoothly when applying and releasing low-pressure compressed air to the 2nd brake drum.



4. INSTALL NO. 4 PLANETARY CARRIER THRUST WASHER

  1. Coat the thrust washer with petroleum jelly, and install it.

    HINT:
    Make sure that the cutout portions of thrust washer fit into the teeth of the spring retainer.
