SPIRAL CABLE > INSTALLATION

CAUTION:
Be sure to read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing (Click here).



1. INSTALL SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY
  1. Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.

  1. Set the turn signal switch to the neutral position.

    NOTICE:
    Make sure that the turn signal switch is in the neutral position, as the pin of the turn signal switch may be snapped.

  1. Install the spiral cable.

    NOTICE:
    When replacing the spiral cable with a new one, remove the lock pin before installing the steering wheel.

  1. Connect the connectors to the spiral cable.

    NOTICE:
    When handling the airbag connector, do not damage the airbag wire harness.



2. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER UPPER


3. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER LOWER

  1. Install the cover with the 3 screws.



4. POSITION SPIRAL CABLE

  1. Slowly rotate the spiral cable counterclockwise by hand until it feels firm.

    NOTICE:
    Do not use the airbag wire harness to turn the spiral cable.

  1. Rotate the spiral cable clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to align the marks.

    NOTICE:
    Do not use the airbag wire harness to turn the spiral cable.

    HINT:
    The spiral cable will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to the left and right from the center.



5. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

  1. Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft.

  1. Install the steering set nut.

    Torque:
    50 N*m{ 510 kgf*cm , 37 ft.*lbf }



6. INSTALL STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY
  1. Check for cuts, cracks or discoloration on the steering pad outer surface and in the grooved portion.

  1. Check that the horn sounds.



7. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL


8. INSPECT STEERING PAD ASSEMBLY

  1. Perform a diagnostic system check (Click here).

  1. With the steering pad (with airbag) installed on the vehicle, perform a visual check:

    1. Check for cuts, cracks or discoloration on the steering pad outer surface and in the grooved portion.
    1. If any of the defects mentioned above are present, replace the steering pad assembly with a new one.

      CAUTION:
      For removal and installation of the steering pad assembly, be sure to follow the correct procedure.



9. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
  1. Perform initialization (Click here).

    NOTICE:
    Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.



10. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
  1. Check the SRS warning light (Click here).



11. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL POSITION
