DESCRIPTION

If the ECM detects a malfunction, the MIL illuminates. The ECM then records the DTC in its memory.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
If the ECM is replaced, the new ECM needs initialization (Click here).

1.CHECK MIL

2.CHECK IF MIL TURNS OFF

  1. Connect the intelligent tester to the DLC3.

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON and turn the intelligent tester ON.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / DTC.

  1. Check if DTCs have been stored. Take notes if there are DTCs.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECD / DTC / Clear.

  1. Clear the DTC(s) (Click here).

  1. Check if the MIL turns OFF.

    OK:
    MIL turns OFF.

3.CHECK WIRE HARNESS

  1. Disconnect the E5 ECM connector.

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON.

  1. Check that the MIL does not illuminate.

    OK:
    MIL does not illuminate.

REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

REPLACE ECM 

4.CHECK IF MIL ILLUMINATES

  1. Check if the MIL illuminates when the ignition switch is turned ON.

    OK:
    MIL illuminates.

5.CHECK COMBINATION METER ASSY (MIL CIRCUIT)

OK:
Combination meter circuit is normal.
