PROCEDURE
1. WITHOUT KEYLESS ACCESS WITH PUSH BUTTON START SYSTEM

 

When the body integrated unit (except for C5 model) or the immobilizer CM (C5 model) is replaced, registration of the immobilizer system is required. For details, refer to the “REGISTRATION MANUAL FOR IMMOBILIZER” provided as a separate volume.

Confirm the number of registered immobilizer key. For details, refer to the “REGISTRATION MANUAL FOR IMMOBILIZER” provided as a separate volume.

Is the number of registration 0?

Register the immobilizer system.

3. CHECK SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT.
1.

Remove the ignition key from ignition switch.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Does the security indicator light blink?

4. CHECK KEY SWITCH.

Insert the ignition key in the ignition switch. (OFF or ACC)

Does the security indicator light remain blinking?

5. CHECK SECURITY INDICATOR LIGHT.

Check the security indicator light status in the condition of step 4.

Does the security indicator light go off?

11. CHECK FREEZE FRAME DATA.

12. CHECK DTC.

Check the displayed DTC.

Are DTCs irrelevant to the immobilizer displayed? (Current malfunction)

Perform the diagnosis according to DTCs irrelevant to the immobilizer first.

13. PERFORM DIAGNOSIS.
1.

Perform the diagnosis for the displayed DTCs. IMMOBILIZER (DIAGNOSTICS)>Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)>LIST

2.

Repair or replace the cause of trouble.

3.

Using the Subaru Select Monitor, perform the following clear memory. COMMON(diag)>Clear memory

  • Body Control (except for C5 model)

  • Immobilizer (for C5 model)

Execute the inspection mode. IMMOBILIZER (DIAGNOSTICS)>Inspection Mode

Finish the diagnosis.

PROCEDURE

It is possible to diagnose the DTC by performing the indicated inspection mode. After correcting the DTC, perform a necessary inspection mode and make sure that the function is resumed correctly and the DTC is recorded.

Diagnostic procedure:

1.

Using the Subaru Select Monitor, perform the clear memory of [Body Control] or [Immobilizer]. COMMON(diag)>Clear memory

2.

Read the DTC of [Body Control] or [Immobilizer] using Subaru Select Monitor and check that the DTC is not displayed. IMMOBILIZER (DIAGNOSTICS)>Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)

 

If the DTC is displayed on the screen, the trouble is still present. Perform the diagnosis for the displayed DTCs. After solving the DTC, repeat from step 1).

3.

Remove the ignition key from the ignition switch, and insert again.

4.

Turn the ignition switch OFF → ON, and wait for 10 seconds or more.

5.

Read the DTC of [Body Control] or [Immobilizer] using Subaru Select Monitor and check that the DTC is not displayed. IMMOBILIZER (DIAGNOSTICS)>Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC)

 

If the DTC is displayed on the screen, the trouble is still present. Perform the diagnosis for the displayed DTCs.

Disconnect the ground terminal from the battery sensor, reconnect it , and then wait for one minute or more.

4.

Turn the ignition switch to ON.

5.

Start the engine, and then run the engine at idle for 10 seconds or more. Or, disconnect the ground terminal from the battery sensor, reconnect it, then turn the ignition switch from OFF to ON and wait for 10 seconds or more.

Replace the fuse. If the replaced fuse blows out easily, repair the short circuit in the harness between the fuse and body integrated unit.

Verify the destination of the vehicle.

4. CHECK IGNITION SWITCH CIRCUIT.
1.

Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

2.

Remove the F/B fuse No. 3.

3.

Measure the voltage between F/B fuse No. 3 (lower stream side) and chassis ground.

Is the voltage 6 V or more?

Repair the short circuit to power supply in harness between the immobilizer CM and fuse.

5. CHECK IGNITION SWITCH CIRCUIT.

6. CHECK IGNITION SWITCH CIRCUIT.
1.

Disconnect the connector from immobilizer CM.

2.

Measure the resistance between immobilizer CM connector terminal and fuse.

Is the resistance less than 10 Ω?

Does the display change in accordance with the ignition key removal/insertion?

Disconnect the connector from body integrated unit.

2.

Connect the resistor (100 Ω) between the body integrated unit connector terminal (i171) No. 20 and chassis ground.

Does the security indicator light illuminate?

10. CHECK BODY INTEGRATED UNIT GROUND CIRCUIT.

Measure the resistance between the body integrated unit connector terminal and chassis ground.

Repair the open circuit of the body integrated unit ground circuit.

11. CHECK BODY INTEGRATED UNIT POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT.

Measure the voltage between the body integrated unit connector terminal and chassis ground.

Measure the voltage between combination meter connector terminal and chassis ground.

Check for an open or short circuit in the harness between the combination meter and fuse.

Measure the resistance between the body integrated unit connector terminal and combination meter connector terminal.

Turn the ignition switch to ON.

Using a tester, measure the voltage between the immobilizer CM connector and chassis ground.

Is the voltage 10 — 13 V?

Repair the open circuit of harness between the immobilizer CM connector and fuse.

5. CHECK HARNESS.

Using a tester, measure the resistance between the immobilizer CM connector and chassis ground.

Repair the open circuit of harness between the immobilizer CM connector and chassis ground.

6. CHECK IMMOBILIZER CM.
1.

Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

2.

Connect the immobilizer CM connector.

3.

Perform communication with the immobilizer CM.

Is communication possible?

  • The circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.

     
    • In this case, temporary poor contact of connector, temporary open or short circuit of harness may be the cause.

If DTCs irrelevant to the immobilizer are displayed, perform diagnosis according to the DTCs irrelevant to the immobilizer first.

2. Body Control
 

Other than for C5 model

 

The starter relay control is performed in immobilizer system. When the body integrated unit detects a nonconformity of reference code, it immediately outputs a starter relay cut signal to ECM, and then ECM stops the starter relay operation. In this case, engine does not start, and DTC is not recorded in ECM. Therefore, check DTC on the body integrated unit to identify the cause of the engine not starting.

3. Immobilizer
 

C5 model

 

The starter relay control is performed in immobilizer system. When the immobilizer CM detects a nonconformity of reference code, it immediately outputs a starter relay cut signal to ECM, and then ECM stops the starter relay operation. In this case, engine does not start, and DTC is not recorded in ECM. Therefore, check DTC on the immobilizer CM to identify the cause of the engine not starting.

DTC B1401 METER COLLATION

Diagnosis start condition:

  • Battery voltage is 10 V or more.

  • The remote engine starter was not used to start the engine.

DTC detecting condition:

Reference code incompatibility between combination meter and body integrated unit

Trouble symptom:

  • Engine will not start.

  • The security indicator illuminates.

 

When the combination meter is replaced, registration of the immobilizer system is required. For details, refer to the “REGISTRATION MANUAL FOR IMMOBILIZER” provided as a separate volume.

1. CHECK COMBINATION METER REGISTRATION.

Perform registration of combination meter. Refer to the “REGISTRATION MANUAL FOR IMMOBILIZER” provided as a separate volume.

Is registration complete?

Currently, it is normal. (Combination meter registration is not complete.)

Refer to “Correspondence table when registration is not possible” in the “REGISTRATION MANUAL FOR IMMOBILIZER” provided as a separate volume. If the registration still does not work properly, replace the combination meter. INSTRUMENTATION/DRIVER INFO>Combination Meter

  • Engine will not start.

  • Even if DTC is displayed, the circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.

     

    In this case, temporary poor contact of connector, temporary open or short circuit of harness may be the cause.

  • Even if DTC is displayed, the circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.

     

    In this case, temporary poor contact of connector, temporary open or short circuit of harness may be the cause.

5. CHECK IMMOBILIZER CM POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT.
1.

Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

2.

Disconnect the connector from immobilizer CM.

3.

Measure the voltage between immobilizer CM connector and chassis ground.

2. CHECK GROUNDING POINT.

Check the grounding point of the engine ground and chassis ground.

Is there any looseness? Are there any foreign matters caught on the ground or contact surface? Are there any oil-soiled areas?

Remove the foreign matters, and tighten to the specified torque. Then start the engine, and check that the fault was removed. Read the DTC IMMOBILIZER (DIAGNOSTICS)>Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC), and when DTC B1572 is still displayed, 3

3. CHECK FUSE.
1.

Turn the ignition switch to OFF.

2.

Check the fuse.

Is the check result OK?

Replace the fuse. If the fuse blows out easily, repair the short circuit to power supply in harness between the battery and immobilizer CM.

4. CHECK DATA MONITOR.

Turn the ignition switch to ON.

2.

Using the Subaru Select Monitor, check the following items in the [Data monitor] of [Immobilizer]. IMMOBILIZER (DIAGNOSTICS)>Data Monitor

  • Even if DTC is displayed, the circuit has returned to a normal condition at this time. Reproduce the failure, and then perform the diagnosis again.

     

    In this case, temporary poor contact of connector, temporary open or short circuit of harness may be the cause.
