Inspection Procedure B-3: Seat belt reminder function does not work normally.


caution Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.


COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM


If the seat belt reminder function does not work normally, the seat belt switch input circuit, the combination meter or the ETACS-ECU may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES



DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics
Use the M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting ). On completion, go to Step 2.

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code.
Check that ETACS-ECU sets a diagnosis code.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?
Refer to diagnosis code chart .
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check the diagnosis code of the combination meter
Check whether the combination meter-related diagnosis code is set.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?
Diagnose the combination meter (Refer to GROUP 54A - Troubleshooting <COLT> or <COLT CZ3>).
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Connector check: C-22 seat belt switch (LH), C-27 seat belt switch (RH) connector, C-27-1 <LH drive vehicles> or C-22-1 <RH drive vehicles> seat belt reminder sensor



Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5.

Repair the defective connector.

STEP 5. Check the seat belt switch and seat belt reminder sensor.
Refer to GROUP 52A - Front Seat Belt <COLT> or <COLT CZ3>.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Replace the seat belt switch or seat belt reminder sensor.

STEP 6. Connector check: B-19 combination meter connector


Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.

Repair the defective connector.

STEP 7. Check the wiring harness from B-19 combination meter connector terminal No.20 to body earth.




note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check seat belt switch (LH) connector C-22 <LH drive vehicles> or seat belt switch (RH) connector C-27 <RH drive vehicles>, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the earth wires for open circuit. (Check with the driver’s seat belt unbuckled.)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 8. Check the wiring harness from B-19 combination meter connector terminal No.19 to body earth.





note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check seat belt switch (RH) connector C-27 <LH drive vehicles>, seat belt switch (LH) connector C-22 <RH drive vehicles>, seat belt reminder sensor C-27-1 <LH drive vehicles> or C-22-1 <RH drive vehicles>, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the earth wires for open circuit. (Check with the front passenger’s seat belt unbuckled, and with the seat belt reminder sensor activated by an occupant on the front passenger seat.)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.

Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 9. Retest the system.
The seat belt reminder function should work normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?
YES <The seat belt reminder function works normally.> : The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
NO <Buzzers do not sound.> : Replace the ETACS-ECU. Then perform the variant coding and write the VIN data (Refer to GROUP 00, Precautions Before Service - How to Perform Variant Coding ).
NO <The indicator does not illuminate.> : Replace the combination meter.
