Code No.U1504: Rain light sensor time-out
TROUBLE JUDGMENT
The ETACS-ECU communicates with the rain light sensor through the LIN communication line. If there is any trouble in that communication, diagnosis code U1504 will be set.
COMMENT ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM
The rain light sensor, the ETACS-ECU, connector(s), or wiring harness between the two may be defective.
PROBABLE CAUSES
- Malfunction of the rain light sensor
- Malfunction of the ETACS-ECU
- Damaged harness wires and connectors

STEP 1. Connector check: C-39 rain light sensor connector
|
|
Q.
Is the check result normal?
 Go to Step 2.
 Repair the defective connector.
|
|
|
STEP 2. Voltage measurement at C-39 rain light sensor connector.
|
|
(1)Disconnect the rain light sensor connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
|
|
(2)Voltage between C-39 rain light sensor connector terminal No.1 and body earth
OK: System voltage
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 4.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check the wiring harness between C-39 rain light sensor connector terminal No.1 and the fusible link (1).

Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check junction block connector B-208, B-213 and intermediate connector C-34, and repair if necessary.
|
- Check the power supply line for open circuit.
Q.
Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions  ).
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 4. Resistance measurement at the C-39 rain light sensor connector.
|
|
(1)Disconnect the rain light sensor connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
|
|
(2)Resistance between C-39 rain light sensor connector terminal No.3 and body earth
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 6.
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Check the wiring harness between C-39 rain light sensor connector terminal No.3 and the body earth.

Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check junction block connector B-213, B-230 and intermediate connector C-34, and repair if necessary.
|
- Check the earth wires for open circuit.

Is the check result normal?
The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 6. Connector check: B-233 ETACS-ECU connector
|
|
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 7.
Repair the defective connector.
|
|
|
STEP 7. Check the wiring harness from B-233 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No. 54 to C-39 rain light sensor connector terminal No. 2.

Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check intermediate connectors B-118 and C-34, and repair if necessary.
|
- Check the communication lines for open circuit and short circuit.
Q.
Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 8.
Repair the wiring harness.

|
STEP 8. Check whether the diagnosis code is reset.
|
|
|
Replace the rain light sensor, and then check that the diagnosis code is reset.
|
|
|
(1)Replace the rain light sensor.
|
|
|
(2)Turn the ignition switch from "LOCK" (OFF) position to "ON" position.
|
|
|
(3)On completion, check that the diagnosis code is reset.
|
|
|
Q.
Is the diagnosis code set?
|
|
|
Replace the ETACS-ECU. Then perform the variant coding and write the VIN data (Refer to GROUP 00, Precautions Before Service - How to Perform Variant Coding ).

|
