Inspection Procedure 2: Engine does not Start (Cranking but no Initial Combustion).

TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION (COMMENT)

If the fuel injectors are not operating, there might be a problem with the MPI system in addition to a malfunction of the immobilizer system. It is normal for this to occur if an attempt is made to start the engine using a key that has not been properly registered.

TROUBLESHOOTING HINTS

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check the engine-ECU <M/T> or the engine-A-M/T-ECU <Automated manual transmission>.

Check if replacing the engine-ECU <M/T> or the engine-A-M/T-ECU <Automated manual transmission>.

Q. Is the engine-ECU <M/T> or the engine-A-M/T-ECU <Automated manual transmission> replaced?

Go to Step 3.

Go to Step 2.

STEP 2. Check the ETACS-ECU.

Check if replacing the ETACS-ECU.

Q. Is the ETACS-ECU replaced?

Go to Step 4.

Go to Step 6

STEP 3. Confirming the ECU matching

Q. Has the ECU matching been performed after the variant coding?

Go to Step 6.

Perform the ECU matching (Refer to ).

STEP 4. Confirming the ECU matching

Q. Has the ECU matching been performed after the variant coding?

Go to Step 5.

Perform the ECU matching (Refer to ).

STEP 5. Confirming the ignition key registration

Q. Has the ignition key been registered?

Go to Step 6.

Register the ignition key (Refer to ).

STEP 6. Check the battery positive voltage.

Measure the battery positive voltage during cranking.

Q. Is the voltage 8 volts or more?

Go to Step 7.

Check the battery. Refer to . The engine should start.

STEP 7. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code.

Read the diagnosis code.

Q. Which diagnosis code resets, the immobilizer system diagnosis code or the MPI system diagnosis code?

Immobilizer system diagnosis code : Refer to .

MPI system diagnosis code : Refer to GROUP 13A, Troubleshooting <1100>, GROUP 13B, Troubleshooting <1300, 1500 (except T/C) > or GROUP 13C, Troubleshooting <1500 (T/C) >.

No diagnosis code : Go to Step 8.

STEP 8. Check the starting system.

Q. Does the engine start?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).

Refer to GROUP 13A, Troubleshooting <1100>, GROUP 13B, Troubleshooting <1300, 1500 (except T/C) >, GROUP 13C, Troubleshooting <1500 (T/C) >. If a malfunction is not resolved, replace the ETACS-ECU. Then perform the variant coding and write the VIN data (Refer to GROUP 00, Precautions Before Service - How to Perform Variant Coding ). Then perform the matching (Refer to ) and register the ignition key (Refer to ). The engine should start.
