Inspection procedure 6: Speedometer does not work (other meters work).
Inspection procedure 7: The fuel gauge needle moves excessively.

caution When the battery cable is disconnected or the combination meter is removed, the fuel gauge learned value will be erased. To let the display unit re-learn it, enter the vehicle speed (by driving the vehicle or entering simulated vehicle speed) and then stop the vehicle.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If only the speedometer does not operate, the ABS-ECU or the TCL/ASC-ECU system, the combination meter, the wiring harness or its connector may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics

warning Since the radiator fan rotates during CAN bus line diagnostics, make sure that no one is servicing the engine compartment before diagnosing the CAN bus line. Since the CAN communication stops when diagnosing the CAN bus line, the ETACS-ECU detects the time-out of the engine-ECU, and activates the radiator fan to prevent overheating as fail-safe.
Use the M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

Q. Is the check result satisfactory?

Go to Step 2.

Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to 54C, Troubleshooting ). After diagnosing the CAN bus lines, go to Step 4.

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III other system diagnosis code

Check whether ABS or TCL/ASC system DTCs are set or not.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

Diagnose the ABS and the TCL/ASC systems. Refer to GROUP 35B, Troubleshooting or GROUP 35C, Troubleshooting . After diagnosing the ABS and the TCL/ASC systems, go to Step 4.

Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. Check the speedometer.

(1)Connect the M.U.T.-III to the diagnosis connector.
(2)Use the M.U.T.-III to enter simulated vehicle speed.
OK: The speedometer shows that simulated vehicle speed.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 4.

After the combination meter is replaced, then perform the variant coding and write the VIN data (Refer to GROUP 00, Precautions Before Service - How to Perform Variant Coding ). Then go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Retest the system.

Check that the speedometer works normally.

Q. Is the check result satisfactory?

The procedure is complete.

Go to Step 1.
