The dead lock system has been adopted to improve the theft prevention performance <RH
drive vehicles: option>. There are the following features.
The dead lock system can be operated with the transmitter.
The hazard lamp answerback are adopted.
Only vehicles with the central door locking system and the keyless entry system
adopt the dead lock system.
DESCRIPTION OF STRUCTURE AND OPERATION
DEAD LOCK SYSTEM FUNCTION
With the dead lock system, the doors cannot be unlocked
by operating the inside handle even if a door glass is broken on purpose.
The dead lock system has the following features:
Doors cannot be opened to make a theft difficult.
Access points to the inside of the vehicle for a thief are restricted to the window
openings only. This forces thief to take a longer time to access, making his/her unnatural behaviour
noticeable.
To activate the dead lock system, press the lock button of the transmitter to lock all
the doors and tailgate, and within 2 seconds, press the lock button again. The hazard warning
lamp blinks three times, and the vehicle enters dead lock status. When the unlock button on
the transmitter is pressed, the dead lock is deactivated, and all the doors and tailgate are
unlocked. Using an adjustment function*, the number of flashing times for the hazard
lamp answer-back can be changed between 0 - 7 times. The initial setting at factory
is three times.

*: Using an adjustment function, the hazard lamp answer-back function can be enabled/disabled.
This is done by using the M.U.T.-III.
DEAD LOCK TIMER FUNCTION
With a vehicle in the dead lock status, when it is unlocked with the transmitter, if any
of the doors or tailgate is not opened within 30 seconds, the ETACS-ECU automatically transmits
the dead lock signal, and the vehicle returns to the dead lock status.
FAIL SAFE FUNCTION OF DEAD LOCK SYSTEM
If the dead lock is activated when someone remains in
the vehicle, and if the person in the vehicle has the applicable key, insert the key into the
ignition switch and turn it to ON position. Then the system recognizes that someone is in the
vehicle and does not accept the dead lock signal. If the person in the vehicle has no applicable
key, the above aid is not available.
In the dead lock status, when any failures such as dead battery occur, the dead
lock can be deactivated and the vehicle can be unlocked by key operation.
OPERATION INHIBITION CONDITIONS
The operation of the dead lock system is inhibited in the following conditions:
When the ignition key is inserted into the ignition switch.
When either door (including the tailgate) is open (the door switch: ON). (including
door ajar)
