DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE


caution
  • If there is any problem in the CAN bus lines, an incorrect diagnosis code may be set. Prior to this diagnosis, diagnose the CAN bus lines.
  • Before replacing the ECU, ensure that the CAN bus lines is normal.

STEP 1. Check the CAN bus system diagnosis.


Using M.U.T.-III, perform CAN bus diagnosis (Refer to GROUP 54C - Explanation About The M.U.T-III Can Bus Diagnostics ).

Q. Is the check result satisfactory?

Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus lines (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting, Can Bus Diagnostic Table ). Then go to Step 30.

STEP 2. Check the MPI system actuator test.


Using M.U.T.-III, check the MPI system actuator test (Refer to GROUP 13A - Troubleshooting, Actuator Test Reference Table ) <134, 3A9>, (Refer to GROUP 13B - Troubleshooting, Actuator Test Reference Table ) <135, 4A9> or (Refer to GROUP 13C - Troubleshooting, Actuator Test Reference Table ) <4G1>.

  • Item 8: Radiator fan (Hi).
  • Item 9: Radiator fan (Low).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 29.
NO <Cooling fan dose not operated> : Go to Step 3.
NO <Cooling fan dose not operated at low speed> : Go to Step 17.
NO <Cooling fan dose not operated at high speed> : Go to Step 21.

STEP 3. Check the MPI system diagnosis code.


Using M.U.T.-III, perform MPI system diagnosis code (Refer to GROUP 13A - Troubleshooting, Diagnosis Function ) <134, 3A9>, (Refer to GROUP 13B - Troubleshooting, Diagnosis Function ) <135, 4A9> or (Refer to GROUP 13C - Troubleshooting, Diagnosis Function ) <4G1>.

Q. Is any diagnosis code set?

Repair the MPI system (Refer to GROUP 13A - Troubleshooting, Inspection Chart for Diagnosis Trouble Code ) <134, 3A9>, (Refer to GROUP 13B - Troubleshooting, Inspection Chart for Diagnosis Trouble Code ) <135, 4A9> or (Refer to GROUP 13C - Troubleshooting, Inspection Chart for Diagnosis Trouble Code ) <4G1>. Then go to Step 30.
Go to Step 4.

STEP 4. Check the ETACS system actuator test.


Using M.U.T.-III, perform ETACS system actuator test (Refer to GROUP 54B - Troubleshooting, Actuator Test Table ).

  • Item 25: Radiator fan low speed: OFF.
  • Item 26: Radiator fan low speed: ON.
  • Item 27: Radiator fan high speed: OFF.
  • Item 28: Radiator fan high speed: ON.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 27.
Go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Measure the voltage at ETACS-ECU connector B-233.



(1)Disconnect the ETACS-ECU connector B-233 and measure at the harness connector side.
(2)Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
(3)Measure the voltage between terminal No.66 and earth and between terminal No.72 and earth.
OK: Battery positive voltage.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 12.

Go to Step 6.

STEP 6. Connectors check: B-230 and B-231 J/B connector, B-214 cooling fan control relay (LO) connector, B-227 cooling fan control relay (HI) connector and B-233 ETACS-ECU connector.




Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7.

Repair or replace the damaged connector. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 7. Check the harness between ignition switch (IG2) and J/B connector B-230 terminal No.3.



Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8.

Repair the damaged harness wire. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 8. Check the harness between J/B connector B-231 terminal No.24 and ETACS-ECU connector B-233 terminal No.66, and between J/B connector B-231 terminal No.33 and ETACS-ECU connector B-233 terminal No.72.



Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9.

Repair the damaged harness wire. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 9. Check the fuse No.41 at J/B.




Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 10.

replace the damaged fuse. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 10. Check the harness between J/B connector B-230 terminal No.3 and cooling fan control relay (LO) connector B-214 terminal No.1, between J/B connector B-230 terminal No.3 and cooling fan control relay (HI) connector B-227 terminal No.1, between cooling fan control relay (LO) connector B-214 terminal No.2 and J/B connector B-231 terminal No.33, and between cooling fan control relay (HI) connector B-227 terminal No.2 and J/B connector B-231 terminal No.24.




Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 11.

Repair the J/B. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 11. Check the cooling fan control relay (LO), (HI).

Q. Is the check result normal?

It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the damaged relay. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 12. Connectors check: A-18 cooling fan motor connector and B-209 J/B connector.





Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 13.

Repair or replace the damaged connector. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 13. Check the harness between J/B connector B-209 terminal No.6 and cooling fan motor connector A-18 terminal No.1, and between J/B connector B-209 terminal No.2 and cooling fan motor connector A-18 terminal No.3.





Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 14.

Repair the damaged harness wire. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 14. Check the harness between cooling fan motor connector A-18 terminal No.2 and earth, and between cooling fan motor connector A-18 terminal No.4 and earth.





Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 15.

Repair the damaged harness wire. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 15. Check the fuse No.3 at J/B.




Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 16.

replace the damaged fuse. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 16. Check the harness between J/B connector B-208 terminal No.1 and cooling fan control relay (LO) connector B-214 terminal No.3, between J/B connector B-208 terminal No.1 and cooling fan control relay (HI) connector B-227 terminal No.3, between cooling fan control relay (LO) connector B-214 terminal No.4 and J/B connector B-209 terminal No.6, and between cooling fan control relay (HI) connector B-227 terminal No.4 and J/B connector B-209 terminal No.2.



Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 25.

Repair the J/B. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 17. Connectors check: A-18 cooling fan motor connector, B-209 and B-231 J/B connector, B-214 cooling fan control relay (LO) connector and B-233 ETACS-ECU connector.






Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 18.

Repair or replace the damaged connector. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 18. Check the harness between J/B connector B-209 terminal No.6 and cooling fan motor connector A-18 terminal No.1, between J/B connector B-231 terminal No.33 and ETACS-ECU connector B-233 terminal No.72.






Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 19.

Repair the J/B. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 19. Check the harness between J/B connector B-208 terminal No.1 and cooling fan control relay (LO) connector B-214 terminal No.3, between J/B connector B-230 terminal No.3 and cooling fan control relay (LO) connector B-214 terminal No.1, between cooling fan control relay (LO) connector B-214 terminal No.4 and J/B connector B-209 terminal No.6, and between cooling fan control relay (LO) connector B-214 terminal No.2 and J/B connector B-231 terminal No.33.




Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 20.

Repair the J/B. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 20. Check the cooling fan control relay (LO).

Go to Step 25.
Replace the damaged relay. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 21. Connectors check: A-18 cooling fan motor connector, B-209 and B-231 J/B connector, B-227 cooling fan control relay (HI) connector and B-233 ETACS-ECU connector.






Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 22.

Repair or replace the damaged connector. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 22. Check the harness between J/B connector B-209 terminal No.2 and cooling fan motor connector A-18 terminal No.3, between J/B connector B-231 terminal No.24 and ETACS-ECU connector B-233 terminal No.66.






Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 23.

Repair the J/B. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 23. Check the harness between J/B connector B-208 terminal No.1 and cooling fan control relay (HI) connector B-227 terminal No.3, between J/B connector B-230 terminal No.3 and cooling fan control relay (HI) connector B-227 terminal No.1, between cooling fan control relay (HI) connector B-227 terminal No.4 and J/B connector B-209 terminal No.2, and between cooling fan control relay (HI) connector B-227 terminal No.2 and J/B connector B-231 terminal No.24.




Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 24.

Repair the J/B. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 24. Check the cooling fan control relay (HI).

Replace the damaged relay. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 26. Check the ETACS system actuator test.


Using M.U.T.-III, perform ETACS system actuator test (Refer to GROUP 54B - Troubleshooting, Actuator Test Table ).

  • Item 25: Radiator fan low speed: OFF.
  • Item 26: Radiator fan low speed: ON.
  • Item 27: Radiator fan high speed: OFF.
  • Item 28: Radiator fan high speed: ON.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Replace the ETACS-ECU (Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS-ECU ). Then go to Step 30.
Go to Step 27.

STEP 27. Check the MPI system actuator test.


Using M.U.T.-III, check the MPI system actuator test (Refer to GROUP 13A - Troubleshooting, Actuator Test Reference Table ) <134, 3A9>, (Refer to GROUP 13B - Troubleshooting, Actuator Test Reference Table ) <135, 4A9> or (Refer to GROUP 13C - Troubleshooting, Actuator Test Reference Table ) <4G1>.

  • Item 8: Radiator fan (Hi).
  • Item 9: Radiator fan (Low).

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 29.
Go to Step 28.

STEP 28. Check the MPI system diagnosis code.


Using M.U.T.-III, perform MPI system diagnosis code (Refer to GROUP 13A - Troubleshooting, Diagnosis Function ) <134, 3A9>, (Refer to GROUP 13B - Troubleshooting, Diagnosis Function ) <135, 4A9> or (Refer to GROUP 13C - Troubleshooting, Diagnosis Function ) <4G1>.

Q. Is any diagnosis code set?

Repair the MPI system (Refer to GROUP 13A - Troubleshooting, Inspection Chart for Diagnosis Trouble Code ) <134, 3A9>, (Refer to GROUP 13B - Troubleshooting, Inspection Chart for Diagnosis Trouble Code ) <135, 4A9> or (Refer to GROUP 13C - Troubleshooting, Inspection Chart for Diagnosis Trouble Code ) <4G1>. Then go to Step 30.

STEP 29. Check the symptoms.


Q. Is the cooling fan operate?

It can be assumed that this malfunction is intermittent (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the engine-ECU <M/T> or engine-A-M/T-ECU <Automated manual transmission> (Refer to GROUP 13A - Engine-ECU ) <134, 3A9>, (Refer to GROUP 13B - Engine-ECU, engine-A-M/T-ECU ) <135, 4A9> or (Refer to GROUP 13C - Engine-ECU ) <4G1>. When the engine-ECU <M/T> or engine-A-M/T-ECU <Automated manual transmission> is replaced, register the encrypted code (Refer to GROUP 54A - Ignition Switch, Encrypted Code Registration Criteria Table ). Then go to Step 30 .

STEP 30. Check the symptoms.


Q. Does the radiator fan and condenser fan operate normal?

The procedure is complete.
Return to Step 1.
