Code No. P0817: Starter Cut Relay System <Vehicles with AS&G system>

OPERATION

• Battery voltage is applied to the starter cut relay (terminal No. 1 and No. 3).
  
• Engine-ECU (terminal No. 116) applies current to the starter cut relay coil by turning ON the power transistor in the unit in order to turn the relay ON.
  
• When the starter cut relay turns ON, battery voltage is supplied by the starter cut relay (terminal No. 3) to the starter cut relay (terminal No. 115). The battery voltage is supplied to the engine-ECU (terminal No. 115) to monitor the operational status of the starter cut relay.
  

FUNCTION

• The engine-ECU monitors the operational status of the starter cut relay.
  

TROUBLE JUDGMENT

• 2 seconds later after the ignition switch has been in "ON" position or the engine has started up.
  

• The battery voltage is supplied to the starter cut relay monitor terminal for 10 seconds.
  

PROBABLE CAUSES

• Failed starter cut relay
  
• Shorted starter cut relay circuit, or connector damage
  

• Failed engine-ECU
  

Q. Is the check result normal? Go to Step 2 . Repair or replace the connector.

	Go to Step 3 .

	Replace the starter cut relay.

Q. Is the check result normal? Go to Step 4 . Repair or replace the connector.

Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side. Voltage between terminal No. 116 and earth. OK: System voltage Q. Is the check result normal? Go to Step 5 . Check intermediate connector B-212, and repair if necessary. If intermediate connector is normal, check and repair harness between B-205 (terminal No. 2) starter cut relay connector and A-09 (terminal No. 116) engine-ECU connector. Check signal line for short circuit.

note Before checking harness, check intermediate connector B-209, and repair if necessary. Check power supply line for short circuit. Q. Is the check result normal? Go to Step 6 . Repair the damaged harness wire.

	Replace the engine-ECU.
