Code No. P0011: Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing Control (MIVEC) System

FUNCTION

The engine-ECU or engine-A-M/T-ECU checks MIVEC system for abnormal conditions.

TROUBLE JUDGMENT

Check Conditions

While the engine is running.
Oil control valve operation: OFF

Judgment Criteria

The phase angle of the intake camshaft is 15° or more for 10 seconds.

or

The monitor current of the oil control valve is abnormal for 4 seconds.

PROBABLE CAUSES

Failed oil control valve
Blockage in the oil passage of MIVEC system
Fixing of variable valve timing sprocket operative mechanism
Failed engine-ECU or engine-A-M/T-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check oil control valve itself.

Check oil control valve itself (Refer to ).

Q. Is the check result normal?

	Go to Step 2 .

	Replace the oil control valve.

STEP 2. Check blockage in the oil passage of MIVEC system

Q. Is the check result normal?

	Go step 3 .

	Repair.

STEP 3. Check fixing of variable valve timing sprocket operative mechanism.

Q. Is the check result normal?

	Go step 4 .

	Repair.

STEP 4. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code.

Reconfirmation of diagnosis code.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?

	Replace the engine-ECU or engine-A-M/T-ECU then perform the variant coding (Refer to GROUP 00 - Precautions Before Service - How to Perform Variant Coding ).

	Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).
