Inspection Procedure 28: Hood Buzzer Switch Circuit Abnormal <Vehicles with AS&G system>

OPERATION

The battery voltage is applied to the hood buzzer switch (terminal No. 1) from the engine-ECU (terminal No. 90).

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If the AS&G indicator lamp blinks in the combination meter although the hood is closed, the hood buzzer switch circuit can possibly be shorted.
If the AS&G indicator lamp does not blink in the combination meter although the hood is opened, the hood buzzer switch circuit can possibly be opened.

PROBABLE CAUSES

Failed hood buzzer switch
Open or shorted hood buzzer switch circuit, harness damage, or connector damage
Failed engine-ECU

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III data list

Item No. 155: Hood buzzer switch

OK:
Closed (hood: close)
Open (hood: open)

Q. Is the check result normal?

	Check combination meter (Refer to GROUP 54A - Combination Meter - Check Chart for Trouble Symptoms <COLT>, <COLT CZ3>).

	Go to Step 2 .

STEP 2. Connector check: A-40 hood buzzer switch connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3 .

Repair or replace the connector.

STEP 3. Check hood buzzer switch

Check hood buzzer switch (Refer to GROUP 42 - Hood - Inspection ).

Q. Is the check result normal?

	Go to Step 4 .

	Replace the hood buzzer switch

STEP 4. Perform resistance measurement at A-40 hood buzzer switch connector.

Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
Resistance between terminal No. 2 and earth.

OK: Continuity (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5 .

Check earthing line for open circuit and damage

STEP 5. Perform voltage measurement at A-40 hood buzzer switch connector.

Disconnect connector, and measure at harness side.
Ignition switch: ON
Voltage between terminal No. 1 and earth.

OK: System voltage

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 9 .

Go to Step 6 .

STEP 6. Connector check: A-09 engine-ECU connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7 .

Repair or replace the connector.

STEP 7. Check harness between A-09 (terminal No. 90) engine-ECU connector and A-40 (terminal No. 1) hood buzzer switch connector.

Check output line for open/short circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8 .

Repair the damaged harness wire.

OK:
Closed (hood: close)
Open (hood: open)

Q. Is the check result normal?

	Intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions ).

	Replace the engine-ECU then perform the variant coding (Refer to GROUP 00 - Precautions Before Service - How to Perform Variant Coding ).

STEP 9. Connector check: A-09 engine-ECU connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 10 .

Repair or replace the connector.

STEP 10. Check harness between A-09 (terminal No. 90) engine-ECU connector and A-40 (terminal No. 1) hood buzzer switch connector.

Check output line for damage.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 8 .

Repair the damaged harness wire.
