FUEL PUMP OPERATION CHECK


1.Remove the fuel tank cap.
2.Check the operating of the fuel pump by M.U.T.-III to force-drive the fuel pump (Refer to ).
note Since the operation sound cannot be heard easily from the in-tank type fuel pump, confirm the operation sound at the fuel inlet.
3.Install the fuel tank cap.



4.If the fuel pump will not operate, check by using the following procedure. If normal, check the fuel pump drive circuit.
(1) Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position.
(2) Remove the rear seat assembly (Refer to GROUP 52A, Rear Seat Assembly ) <Vehicles without tumbling type rear seat>. Lift up the rear seat assembly <Vehicles with tumbling type rear seat>.
(3) Remove the rear scuff plate <COLT> (Refer to GROUP 52A, Interior Trims ).

caution Moulding type of centre carpet is used. Be careful not to change the shape of carpet when turning it over for operation.
Turn over the centre carpet.
(5) Remove the inspection lid.
(6) Disconnect the fuel tank pump and gauge assembly connector.
(7) Remove the fuel tank cap.
(8) When the fuel tank pump and gauge assembly connector is attached directly to the battery, check if the sound of the fuel pump operation can be heard. If no operating sound is heard, replace the fuel tank pump (Refer to GROUP 13D, Fuel Tank ).
note Since the operation sound cannot be heard easily from the in-tank type fuel pump, confirm the operation sound at the fuel inlet.
(9) Install the fuel tank cap.
(10) Check for fuel pressure by pinching the fuel hose with fingertips.
(11) Connect the fuel tank pump and gauge assembly connector.
(12) Install the inspection lid.
(13) Return the centre carpet to the original state.
(14) Install the rear scuff plate <COLT> (Refer to GROUP 52A, Interior Trims ).
(15) Install the rear seat assembly (Refer to GROUP 52A, Rear Seat Assembly ) <Vehicles without tumbling type rear seat>. Return the rear seat to the original state <Vehicles with tumbling type rear seat>.
