FORCED LEARNING OF ESTIMATED ETHANOL CONCENTRATION

PURPOSE

When carrying out the learning of the estimated ethanol concentration every time the engine starts or the fuel is supplied, the Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) controls the injection amount according to the ethanol concentration in the fuel tank. The difference, however, arises between the ethanol concentration stored by the engine-ECU and the actual ethanol concentration when performing the following driving or work. This can possibly impact on the poor cold engine starting or the drivability in the cold stste. Using the M.U.T.-III, this malfunction can be solved by carrying out the forced learning of the estimated ethanol concentration.

  • Long duration engine idling
  • Repeating the short distance run that cannot switch to the estimating concentration mode.
  • Replacing the fuel of the fuel tank
  • Outputting the diagnosis code
  • Replacing the fuel gauge unit and the fuel supply line
  • Replacing the engine-ECU

LEARNING PROCEDURE

note Confirm that the diagnosis code is not output by the engine-ECU before performing the forced learning of the estimated ethanol concentration. If the diagnosis code is output, carry out the work after solving the malfunction.
1.After the ignition switch is in "LOCK" (OFF) position, connect the M.U.T.-III to the diagnosis connector.
2.After confirming that the engine control relay is in the OFF position, start the engine.
3.Select "MPI/GDI/DIESEL" from System select Screen of the M.U.T.-III.
4.Select "Special Function" from MPI/GDI/DIESEL Screen.
5.Select "Learning" from Special Function Screen.
6.Select "Ethanol forced learning mode" from Learning Screen
7.Push the OK button and drive the vehicle for approximately 15 minutes.
8.Confirm that the M.U.T.-III data list item No. 170 Ethanol percentage learning is "Completed". If it is "Not completed", drive the vehicle for several minutes more.
