DTC Troubleshooting: 54 (With VSA)

DTC Troubleshooting: 54

DTC 54:  Fail-safe Relay


NOTE: If the DTCs shown below indicated with the DTC 54 at a time, troubleshoot DTCs shown below first, then troubleshoot the DTC 54.

DTC 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38: Solenoid

1.Disconnect the VSA control unit 46P connector.

2.Check the No. 15 (30 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.

Is the fuse OK?


YES - Reinstall the fuse, the go to 3.


NO - Go to 5.


3.Mesure the voltage between VSA control unit 46P connector terminal No. 44 and body ground.

Is there battery voltage?


YES - Go to 4.


NO - Repair open in the wire between No. 15 (30 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and VSA modulator-control unit.n

4.Check for continuity between VSA control unit 46P connector terminal No. 43 and body ground.

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Repair open the wire between VSA modulator-control unit and body ground (G202).n


5.Check for continuity between VSA control unit 46P connector terminal No. 44 and body ground.

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire between No. 15 (30 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and VSA modulator-control unit.n


NO - Go to 6.


6.Reconnect the VSA control unit 46P connector.

7.Clear the DTCs using the HDS.

8.Test-drive the vehicle at 15 km/h (9 mph) or more.

9.Check the DTCs using the HDS.

Does the VSA indicator come on, and are DTC 54 indicated?


YES - Check for loose or poor connections in the VSA control unit 46P connector. If connections are good, replace the VSA modulator-control unit.n


NO - The system is OK at this time.n
