Rear Axle Beam Replacement - Rear Drum Brake

1.	Raise the rear of the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.

2.	Remove the rear spring.

3.	Remove the hub bearing unit.

4.	Disconnect the brake pipe (A) from the wheel cylinder (B). BDCA 15 N·m (1.5 kgf·m, 11 lbf·ft)6 x 1.0 mm 9.8 N·m (1.0 kgf·m, 7.2 lbf·ft)10 x 1.25 mm 64 N·m (6.5 kgf·m, 47 lbf·ft)

5.	Remove the parking brake cable clamp (C), and remove the rear brake assembly (D) from the rear axle beam. NOTE: The parking brake cable must not be bent or distorted. This will lead to stiff operation and premature cable failure.

6.	Remove the spindle (A), and wheel sensor (B) from the rear axle beam. AB6 x 1.0 mm 9.8 N·m (1.0 kgf·m, 7.2 lbf·ft)6 x 1.0 mm 9.8 N·m (1.0 kgf·m, 7.2 lbf·ft)

7.	Release the wheel sensor cord clips (A). 15 N·m (1.5 kgf·m, 11 lbf·ft)DACB

8.	Disconnect the brake line (B) from the brake hose (C), and remove the brake hose on the rear axle beam by removing the brake hose clip (D).

9.	Place a floor jack under the center of the rear axle beam, and support it by raising the jack.

10.	Remove the rear axle beam mounting bolts on the right and left side, and remove the rear axle beam (A). A12 x 1.25 mm 69 N·m (7.0 kgf·m, 51 lbf·ft)

Install the rear axle beam in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

First install all the rear suspension components and lightly tighten bolts, then place a jack under the axle beam, and raise the suspension to load the vehicle weight before fully tightening bolts to specified torque values.
Before installing the brake drum, clean the mating surface of the rear hub and the inside of the brake drum.
After installing, fill the reservoir with new brake fluid, and bleed the brake system.
Check the brake hose and line joint for leaks, and tighten if necessary.
Check the brake hoses for interference and twisting.
