Piston, Pin and Connecting Rod Replacement (cont'd)

7-15

Piston Ring Replacement

  1. Use a piston ring replacer to remove the piston rings.

  1. Check the piston ring gap.
  1. Insert the piston ring horizontally into the cylinder bore.
  2. Use a piston inserted upside down to push the piston ring into the cylinder bore until it reaches either measuring point (A) or measuring point (B). Cylinder bore diameter is the smallest at these two points.

NOTE: Do not allow the piston ring to slant to one side or the other. It must be perfectly horizontal.

  3. Use a feeler gauge to measure the piston ring gap.

Small end bushing inside diameter:

Measuring point (A):

11 mm or

Measuring point (B):

97 mm

  • If the piston ring gap exceeds the specified limit, the piston ring must be replaced.
