Camshaft Inspection (cont'd)

6-20

  1. Measure the run-out with a dial indicator. If the measured value exceeds the specified limit, the camshaft must be replaced.

Camshaft run-out (TIR):

Standard:

0.03 mm (0.001 in.)

Limit:

0.05 mm (0.002 in.)

  1. Clean the camshaft journal and bracket.
  1. Place the plastigage (A) over the camshaft journal across the full width of the bracket, then install the bracket (B).

NOTE: Do not allow the camshaft to turn during bracket installation and tightening.

Tightening torque:

M8 22 Nm (2.2 kgf/m, 16 lbf/ft)

M10 43 Nm (4.4 kgf/m, 32 lbf/ft)

  1. Remove the bracket.
  1. Compare the width of the plastigage attached to either the camshaft or the bracket against the scale printed on the plastigage container.

If clearance between cam journal and bracket exceed the limit, the camshaft and/or camshaft carrier assembly must be replaced.

Clearance between cam journal and bracket:

Standard:

0.04 – 0.082 mm (0.002 – 0.003 in.)

Limit:

0.11 mm (0.004 in.)
