Cylinder Head

Cylinder Head Inspection

6-18

Cylinder Head Lower Face Distortion

  1. Use a straight edge and a feeler gauge to measure the four sides and the two diagonals of the cylinder head lower face.

  1. Regrind the cylinder head lower face if the measured values are greater than the specified limit but less than the maximum grinding allowance. If the measured values exceed the maximum grinding allowance, the cylinder head must be replaced.

NOTE: If the cylinder head lower face is reground, valve depression must be checked.

Cylinder head lower face distortion:

Standard:

0.075 mm (0.003 in.) or less

Limit:

0.1 mm (0.004 in.)

Cylinder head height (Reference):

Standard:

95 mm (3.7 in.)

Exhaust & Intake Manifold Fitting Face Distortion

  1. Use a straight edge and a feeler gauge to measure the manifold cylinder head fitting face warpage.

  1. Regrind the manifold cylinder head fitting faces if the measured values are greater than the specified limit but less than the maximum grinding allowance. If the measured values exceed the maximum grinding allowance, the cylinder head must be replaced.

Manifold fitting face distortion:

Standard:

0.05 mm (0.001 in.) or less

Limit:

0.15 mm (0.005 in.)

Maximum grinding allowance:

0.4 mm (0.01 in.)
