- Inspect the two case halves for cracks, porosity, damaged mating surfaces, stripped bolt threads, or distortion. Replace the clutch housing if any of these conditions are present.
- Inspect the condition of all needles, rollers and thrust bearings. Wash bearings thoroughly in cleaning solvent. Apply compressed air to bearings.
NOTE: Do not allow the bearings to spin. Turn them slowly by hand. Spinning bearings may damage the rollers.
Lubricate bearings with a light oil and check them for roughness by slowly turning the race by hand.

- Sliding hammer 5-8840-0019-0 (J-23907)
- Needle bearing remover 5-8840-2409-0 (J-29369-1)
- Oil seal installer 5-8840-0026-0 (J-26540)
- Needle bearing installer 5-8840-7000-0
- Remove the needle bearings (A), using the special tools.

- Remove the input shaft oil seal.
- Install the input shaft oil seal (A), using the special tool.
