DTC Troubleshooting: B1380

DTC B1380:  Open Switch Signal Error


1.Clear the DTCs by selecting the DTCs MENU (DTCs) from the Honda PGM Tester or the HDS.

2.Open the tailgate fully with the tailgate outer handle, then close it fully with manual operation.

3.Check the DTCs by selecting the DTCs MENU (DTCs) from the Honda PGM Tester or the HDS.

Is DTC B1380 indicated?


YES - Go to 4.


NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.n


4.Open the tailgate fully with the tailgate outer handle.

5.Cycle the ignition switch to OFF, and disconnect the 12P connector from the tailgate closer unit.

6.Check for continuity between the No. 4 and No. 9 terminals of the tailgate closer unit 12P connector.

Is there continuity?


YES - Faulty open switch; replace the tailgate closer unit.n


NO - Go to 7.

7.Reconnect the 12P connector to the tailgate closer unit.

8.Disconnect connector A (26P) from the power tailgate control unit.

9.Check for continuity between the No. 4 terminal of power tailgate control unit connector A (26P) and body ground.

Is there continuity?


YES - Go to 15.


NO - Go to 10.


10.By using the screwdriver, close the latch in the tailgate.

11.Connect battery positive (+) terminal to the No. 13 terminal of power tailgate control unit connector A (26P), and connector negative (-) terminal to the No. 26 terminal, move the motor to closing direction less than one second.

12.Check for continuity between the No. 4 and No. 14 terminals of power tailgate control unit connector A (26P).

Is there continuity?


YES - Faulty power tailgate control unit; replace it.n


NO - Go to 13.


13.Disconnect the 12P connector from the tailgate closer unit.

14.Check for continuity between the No. 4 and No. 9 terminals of the tailgate closer unit 12P connector.

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair an open in the BRN (CLOP) wire between the No. 4 terminal of power tailgate control unit connecter A (26P) and the No. 4 terminal of the tailgate closer unit 12P connector.n


NO - Faulty open switch, or an open circuit for CLOP line in the tailgate closer unit; replace it.n

15.Disconnect the 12P connector from the tailgate closer unit.

16.Check for continuity between the No. 4 terminal of the tailgate closer unit 12P connector and body ground.

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair a short in the BRN (CLOP) wire between the No. 4 terminal of power tailgate control unit connector A (26P) and the No. 4 terminal of the tailgate closer unit 12P connector.n


NO - A short circuit for CLOP line in the tailgate closer unit; replace it.n
