Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - Radio station has poor reception or can not be received

Radio station has poor reception or can not be received

NOTE: Inspect the quality of radio reception in an open space away from tall buildings. If you are far from the nearest radio station, close to a high-voltage power line in the mountain or buildings, the reception will be poor.

1.Check if each radio station can be received normally. Compare the radio reception to another vehicle of the same model and trim level in the exact same conditions.

Are they the same?

YES - Operation is normal.n

NO - Go to 2.

2.Wrap aluminum foil (A) around the trip of the tester probe (B) as shown.

3.Touch one tester probe to the near of the window antenna terminal (A) here, and move the other tester probe along the antenna wires to check that continuity exists.

Is there continuity?

YES - Go to 4.

NO - Repair the antenna wires.

4.With the radio ON, measure the voltage on the small black wire.

Is there 12 V?

YES - Go to 5.

NO - Go to 9.

5.Remove the radio-HVAC-display module and disconnect the antenna lead from the black of the radio and check for continuity from the end of the center pin.

Is there continuity?

YES - Go to 6.

NO - Replace the antenna lead.n

6.Check for continuity from end to of the outer surface of the antenna leads.

Is there continuity?

YES - Go to 7.

NO - Replace the antenna lead.n

7.Check for continuity between the antenna jack core at the radio and window antenna terminal.

Is there continuity?

YES - Go to 8.

NO - Replace the antenna amplifier.n

8.Check for continuity between the core and outer surface of the antenna jack.

Is there continuity?

YES - Faulty antenna lead.n

NO - Faulty audio unit.n

9.Remove the audio-HVAC-display module and disconnect the radio unit connector A (20P).

10.Check for continuity between A1 (YEL/GRN) and the small black wire at the antenna coil.

Is there continuity?

YES - Substitute a known-good audio unit and reset.

NO - Repair an open in the antanna amplifier harness.n
