| DTC P2646: | Oil Pressure Switch Circuit Low Voltage |
Specal Tools Required
Oil pressure gauge attachment ( 07NAJ-P070100)
| 1. | Check the engine oil level. Is the level OK? YES - Go to 2. NO - Adjust the engine oil to the proper level, then go to 20. |
| 2. | Turn the ignition switch ON (II). |
| 3. | Do the DTC CLEAR in the CLEAR MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or the HDS. |
| 4. | Do the VTEC TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or the HDS. Is the result OK? YES - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the VTEC oil pressure switch, the VTEC solenoid valve and the ECM/PCM.n NO - Go to 5. |
| 5. | Turn the ignition switch OFF. |
| 6. | Disconnect the VTEC oil pressure switch 2P connector. |
| 7. | Turn the ignition switch ON (II). |
| 8. | Check the VTM in the DATA LIST with the Honda PGM Tester or the HDS. Is switch ON indicated? YES - Go to 9. NO - Replace the VTEC oil pressure switch, then go to 20. |
| 9. | Turn the ignition switch OFF. |
| 10. | Remove the VTEC oil pressure switch (A) or the bolt, and install the special tools as shown, then install the VTEC oil pressure switch (A) or the bolt to the oil pressure gauge adapter (B). NOTE: Install the part in the reverse order of removal with a new O-ring. |
| 11. | Turn the ignition switch ON (II). |
| 12. | Do the VTEC TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or the HDS. Is the oil pressure below 49 kPa (0.5 kgf/cm2, 7 psi)? YES - Inspect the VTEC system oil line. If it is OK, replace the VTEC solenoid valve, then go to 20. NO - Go to 13. |
| 13. | Turn the ignition switch OFF. |
| 14. | Jump the SCS line with the Honda PGM Tester or the HDS. |
| 15. | Disconnect the VTEC oil pressure switch 2P connector. |
| 16. | Disconnect ECM/PCM connector B (24P). |
| 17. | Check for continuity between ECM/PCM connector terminal B11 and body ground. Is there continuity? YES - Repair short in the wire between the ECM/PCM (B11) and the VTEC oil pressure switch, then go to 18. NO - go to 26. |
| 18. | Reconnect the VTEC oil pressure switch 2P connector. |
| 19. | Reconnect ECM/PCM connector B (24P). |
| 20. | Turn the ignition switch ON (II). |
| 21. | Do the ECM/PCM RESET in the CLEAR MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or the HDS. |
| 22. | Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure. |
| 23. | Test-drive under following conditions: Accelerate in 1st gear to an engine speed over 4,000 rpm (min-1). Hold the speed for at least 2 seconds. |
| 24. | Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P2646 indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the VTEC oil pressure switch, the VTEC solenoid value and the ECM/PCM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC troubleshooting. NO - Go to 25. |
| 25. | Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P2646 in the DTCs MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or the HDS. Is it PASSED? YES - Troubleshooting is complete.n NO - If it is FAILED, then go to 1. and recheck. If it is NOT COMPLETED, go to 23 and recheck. |
| 26. | Update the ECM/PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM/PCM. |
| 27. | Test-drive under following conditions: Accelerate in 1st gear to an engine speed over 4,000 rpm (min-1). Hold the speed for at least 2 seconds. |
| 28. | Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs in the DTCs MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or the HDS. Are any temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES - If DTC P2646 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the VTEC oil pressure switch, the VTEC solenoid value and the ECM/PCM, then go to 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC troubleshooting. NO - If the ECM/PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complate. If the ECM/PCM was substituted, replace the original ECM/PCM.n |
