DTC Troubleshooting: P0982 (60-3)

DTC P0982:  Short in Shift Solenoid Valve D Circuit


NOTE:

1.Clear the DTC in CLEAR MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS.

2.Check that DTC P0982 recurs.

Is DTC P0982 indicated?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Go to 3.


3.Select SHIFT SOL TEST in MISC. TEST MENU, then carry out A/T SHIFT SOL D test in SHIFT SOL TEST MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS.

4.Check the OBD STATUS in DTCs MENU for a pass/fail test of code P0982.

Did the result fail?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the tester indicates NOT COMPLETE, return to step 3 and recheck.n


5.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

6.Jump the SCS line with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS.

7.Disconnect PCM connectors A (31P) and C (22P).

8.Measure the resistance between PCM connector terminals C5 and A8 or A9.

Is there less than 12 W?


YES - Go to 9.


NO - Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM.n

9.Disconnect the shift solenoid harness connector at the transmission housing.

10.Check for continuity between PCM connector terminals C5 and A8 or A9.

Is there continuity?


YES - Repair short to ground in the wire between PCM connector terminal C5 and the shift solenoid harness connector.n


NO - Check shift solenoid valve D. If shift solenoid valve D is replaced, go 11, and check that the repair has been completed.

11.Clear the DTC in CLEAR MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS.

12.Test-drive the vehicle for several minutes under the same conditions as those indicated by the freeze data.

13.Check the OBD STATUS in DTCs MENU for a pass/fail test of code P0982.

Did the result pass?


YES - The problem has been corrected.n


NO - Return to step 1 and recheck.n
