DTC Troubleshooting: P0980 (22-4)

DTC P0980:  Open in Shift Solenoid Valve C Circuit


NOTE:

1.Clear the DTC in CLEAR MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS.

2.Check that DTC P0980 recurs.

Is DTC P0980 indicated?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Go to 3.


3.Select SHIFT SOL TEST in MISC. TEST MENU, then carry out A/T SHIFT SOL C test in SHIFT SOL TEST MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS.

4.Check the OBD STATUS in DTCs MENU for a pass/fail test of code P0980.

Did the result fail?


YES - Go to 5.


NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If the tester indicates NOT COMPLETE, return to step 3 and recheck.n


5.Turn the ignition switch OFF.

6.Jump the SCS line with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS.

7.Disconnect PCM connectors A (31P) and C (22P).

8.Measure the resistance between PCM connector terminals C2 and A8 or A9.

Is there 12-25 W?


YES - Check for loose or poor connections at PCM connector terminal C2. If the connections are OK,update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM.n


NO - Go to 9.

9.Disconnect the shift solenoid harness connector at the transmission housing.

10.Measure the resistance between the No. 1 terminal of the shift solenoid harness connector and body ground.

Is there 12-25 W?


YES - Repair open in the wire between PCM connector and the shift solenoid harness connector.n


NO - Check shift solenoid valve C, and check for an open in the shift solenoid harness in the transmission. If shift solenoid valve C is replaced, go to 11, and check that the repair has been completed.


11.Clear the DTC in CLEAR MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS.

12.Test-drive the vehicle for several minutes under the same conditions as those indicated by the freeze data.

13.Check the OBD STATUS in DTCs MENU for a pass/fail test of code P0980.

Did the result pass?


YES - The problem has been corrected.n


NO - Return to step 1 and recheck.n
