DTC Troubleshooting: P0958 (24-4)

DTC P0958:

Open in Transmission Gear Selection Switch Circuit, or Transmission Gear Selection Switch Stuck OFF

NOTE:

Record all freeze data and review General Troubleshooting Information before you troubleshoot.
This code is caused by an electrical circuit problem and cannot be caused by a mechanical problem in the transmission.

1.	Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

2.	Shift the shift lever into the [P] position.

3.	Verify the transmission gear selection switch manual mode switch inputs with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS in the A/T data list. Is manual mode SW OFF? YES - Go to 4. NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.n

4.	Turn the ignition switch OFF.

5.	Disconnect the transmission gear selection switch connector.

Check for continuity between transmission gear selection switch connector terminals No. 2 and No. 3.

Is there continuity when the shift lever is in [M] position, and no continuity when the shift lever is in any other [M] position?

YES - Go to 7.

NO - Faulty the transmission gear selection switch manual mode switch. Replace the shift lever bracket base. The transmission gear selection switch is not available separately from the shift lever bracket base. After replacing the switch, go to 10, and check that the repair has been completed.n

7.	Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

8.	Measure the voltage between the No. 3 terminal of the transmission gear selection switch connector and body ground. Is there about 5 V? YES - Repair open in the wire between the transmission gear selection switch and ground (G501), or repair poor ground (G501).n NO - Go to 9.

Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminal D2 and body ground.

Is there about 5 V?

YES - Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal D2 and the transmission gear selection switch connector.n

NO - Check for loose or poor connections at PCM connector terminal D2. If the connections are OK, update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM.n

10.	Clear the DTC in CLEAR MENU with the Honda PGM Tester or HDS.

11.	Test-drive the vehicle for several minutes under the same conditions as those indicated by the freeze data.

12.	Check the OBD STATUS in DTCs MENU for a pass/fail test of code P0958. Did the result pass? YES - The problem has been corrected.n NO - Return to step 1 and recheck.n
