DTC Troubleshooting: P0985 (61)

  1. Check for continuity between PCM connector terminals B24 and C40.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair short to body ground in the wire between PCM connector terminal B24 and the shift solenoid wire harness connector, then go to Step 16 .
NO -
Go to Step 14 .
  1. Inspect shift solenoid valve E and the shift solenoid wire harness.
  1. Replace either shift solenoid valve E or the shift solenoid wire harness, whichever failed the test, then go to Step 16 .
  1. Reconnect all connectors.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  1. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
  1. Start the engine with the shift lever in P, and wait for at least 1 second. Then shift to N, and wait for at least 1 second.
  1. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0985 indicated?
YES -
Check for intermittent short to body ground in the wire between shift solenoid valve E and the PCM, then go to Step 1 .
NO -
Go to Step 21 .
  1. Monitor the OBD STATUS for P0985 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.
Does the HDS indicate PASSED?
YES -
Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs were indicated in Step 20 , go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.■
NO -
If the HDS indicates FAILED, check for intermittent short to body ground in the wire between shift solenoid valve E and the PCM, then go to Step 1 . If the HDS indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to Step 19 .
  1. Reconnect all connectors.
  1. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM.
  1. Start the engine with the shift lever in P, and wait for at least 1 second. Then shift to N, and wait for at least 1 second.
  1. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0985 indicated?
YES -
Check for intermittent short to body ground in the wire between shift solenoid valve E and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM, then go to Step 24 . If the PCM was substituted, go to Step 1 .
NO -
Go to Step 26 .
  1. Monitor the OBD STATUS for P0985 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.
Does the HDS indicate PASSED?
YES -
If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs were indicated in Step 25 , go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.■
NO -
If the HDS indicates FAILED, check for intermittent short to body ground in the wire between shift solenoid valve E and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM, then go to Step 24 . If the PCM was substituted, go to Step 1 . If the HDS indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to Step 24 .
