DTC Troubleshooting: 74-24

DTC 74-24: 
Short to Ground in the Right Side E-pretensioner Motor
NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures and General Troubleshooting Information.
  1. Clear the DTC memory.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and wait for 10 seconds.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and wait for 10 seconds.
  1. A function test for ‘‘E-pretensioner forcible operation at the time of a CMS operation'' is carried out with the HDS.
  1. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 74-24 indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 6 .
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Disconnect the right side wire harness 2P connector from the right side E-pretensioner motor.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  1. Clear the DTC memory.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and wait for 10 seconds.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and wait for 10 seconds.
  1. A function test for ‘‘E-pretensioner forcible operation at the time of a CMS operation'' is carried out with the HDS.
  1. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 74-24 indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 14 .
NO -
Faulty the right side E-pretensioner motor; replace the right side E-pretensioner motor. ■
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Disconnect the left engine compartment subharness 14P connector (LHD models) or E-pretensioner subharness 14P connector (RHD models) from the E-pretensioner unit.
  1. Measure the resistance between No. 1 terminal of right side wire harness 2P connector and body ground, and between the No. 2 terminal and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MΩ.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Replace the E-pretensioner unit. ■
NO -
Open in the left engine compartment subharness (LHD models), E-pretensioner subharness (RHD models), left engine compartment wire harness, right side wire harness or right engine compartment wire harness; replace the faulty harness.■
