How to Troubleshoot the Climate Control

Checking for DTCs
The temperature display indicates single or multiple DTCs. If no DTCs are present, the indicator remains blank.
NOTE: If indicator segments A, C, D, E, G, K, with the AUTO indicator, or the A/C ON indicator are on at the same time, there may be an open in the common ground wire.
DTC (Driver's Temperature Indicator Segment, AUTO, and A/C Indicator)
Detection Item
A and AUTO
An open in the in-car temperature sensor circuit
B and AUTO
A short in the in-car temperature sensor circuit
C and AUTO
An open in the outside air temperature sensor circuit
D and AUTO
A short in the outside air temperature sensor circuit
E and AUTO
An open in the sunlight sensor circuit
F and AUTO
A short in the sunlight sensor circuit
G and AUTO
An open in the evaporator temperature sensor circuit
H and AUTO
A short in the evaporator temperature sensor circuit
A and A/C ON
An open in the driver's air mix control motor circuit
B and A/C ON
A short in the driver's air mix control motor circuit
C and A/C ON
A problem in the driver's air mix control linkage, door, or motor circuit
D and A/C ON
An open in the passenger's air mix control motor circuit
E and A/C ON
A short in the passenger's air mix control motor circuit
F and A/C ON
A problem in the passenger's air mix control linkage, door, or motor circuit
G and A/C ON
An open in the mode control motor circuit
H and A/C ON
A short in the mode control motor circuit
J and A/C ON
A problem in the mode control linkage, doors, or motor circuit
K and A/C ON
An open in the recirculation control motor circuit
L and A/C ON
A short in the recirculation control motor circuit
M and A/C ON
A problem in the recirculation control linkage, door, or motor circuit
N and A/C ON
A problem in the blower motor circuit

DTC (Driver's Temperature Indicator Segment)
Detection Item
A
Climate control unit internal error
B
Output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor signal error. Check for DTCs in the A/T system and go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting. If no DTCs are found, replace the climate control unit
C
Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor signal error. Check for DTCs in the PGM-FI system and go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting. If no DTCs are found, replace the climate control unit
D
Communication bus line error (bus-off)
