Wipers/Washers (Driver's and Passenger's MICU) Input Test

Driver's MICU
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Remove the driver's dashboard undercover, then remove the dashboard lower cover.
  1. Disconnect driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connectors F, Q, and R.
    NOTE: All connector views are wire side of female terminals.
  1. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact.
    • If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary and recheck the system.
    • If the terminals look OK, go to Step 5 .
  1. With the connectors still disconnected, make these input tests at the connectors.
    • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
    • If all the input tests prove OK, go to Step 6 .

  1. Reconnect the connectors to the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box, turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and make these input tests at the connectors.
    • If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system.
    • If all the input tests prove OK, go to Step 7 .

    Brake pedal released
    Measure the voltage to ground:
    There should be no voltage.
    • Faulty brake pedal position switch
    • A short to power in the wire

    Ignition switch ON (II)
    Measure the voltage to ground:
    There should be battery voltage.
    • Blown No. 4 (10 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box
    • Faulty driver's under-dash fuse/relay box
    • Faulty relay circuit board in the under-hood fuse/relay box
    • A short to ground in the wire

    Ignition switch ON (II)
    Measure the voltage to ground:
    There should be battery voltage.
    • Blown No. 3-8 (WIP MTR) (30 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box
    • Poor ground (G301)
    • Faulty relay circuit board in the under-hood fuse/relay box
    • An open in the wire
    Attach to ground:
    The wiper motor should run at high speed.
    • Poor ground (G301, G302) [G201]
    • Faulty relay circuit board in the under-hood fuse/relay box
    • Faulty wiper motor
    • An open in the wire

    Measure the voltage between the R16 and the R4 terminals:
    There should be less than 1 V.

    Wiper switch OFF
    Measure the voltage between the R16 and the R4 terminals:
    There should be more than 5 V.
    • Faulty wiper/washer switch
    • A short to ground in the wire

    Measure the voltage between the R17 and the R4 terminals:
    There should be less than 1 V.

    There should be more than 5 V.
    • Faulty wiper/washer switch
    • A short to ground in the wire

    Measure the voltage between the R18 and the R4 terminals:
    There should be less than 1 V.
    • Faulty wiper/washer switch
    • An open in the wire
    Washer switch OFF
    Measure the voltage between the R18 and the R4 terminals:
    There should be more than 5 V.
    • Faulty wiper/washer switch
    • A short to ground in the wire

    Intermittent dwell timer turned
    Check resistance between the R1 and R4 terminals:
    There resistance should vary between 0 to 1 kΩ.
