Parking and Back-up Sensor System
The parking and back-up sensor system has a sensor at each corner of the vehicle. Two center parking sensors in the front bumper and two back-up sensors in the rear bumper. The sensors send out ultrasonic sound waves, receive waves reflected by an obstacle, determines the distance, and uses the buzzer and LEDs on the multi-information display to tell the driver that an obstacle is near.
-
The parking sensors work anytime the shifter is out of park (A/T) and parking brake is released (M/T) until the vehicle reaches about 16 km/h (10 mph). They do not come back on until slowing down to about 8 km/h (5 mph) or less.
-
The back-up sensors only activate in reverse (A/T) and parking brake is released (M/T), until the vehicle reaches 16 km/h (10 mph). They will not activate again until slowing back down to 8 km/h (5 mph).
-
The parking and back-up sensor system is inactive with its switch OFF.
-
The parking sensor buzzer, back-up sensor buzzer and LEDs, activate for 0.5 second when the ignition switch is turned to ON (II), and the parking/back-up switch is turned from OFF to ON.
-
The parking and back-up sensors must be free of debris, snow, and ice to work correctly.
-
A system check is performed each time:
| -
|
The parking and back-up sensor switch is turned ON when the ignition switch is already ON (II).
|
-
If a failure occurs, the multi-information display shows CHECK SYSTEM. But one of the sensors is receive waves reflected by an obstacle, system is normal state.
Corner
-
The sensor determines between about 60 cm (2 ft) to 45 cm (1.5 ft), 45 cm (1.5 ft) to 35 cm (1.2 ft), and 35 cm (1.2 ft) to 20 cm (0.66 ft) from the obstacle to activate the warning indicators accordingly.
-
The LED and the corner buzzer are used to alert the driver, and the ON/OFF time is varied as shown in the table below according the sensed distance.
-
If an obstacle is sensed by more than one sensor, the buzzer sounds in synch with the LED indicator of the sensor that is closest to the obstacle.
