A/T Paddle Shifter + (Upshift Switch) Circuit Troubleshooting
R20A3 Engine Model
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures in the SRS before doing repair or service.
  1. Check for continuity between cable reel subharness 20P connector terminals No. 14 and No. 12 when pressing the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) and when the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) is released.
Is there continuity when pressing the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) and no continuity when the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) is released?
YES -
Go to Step 5 .
NO -
Go to Step 3 .
  1. Disconnect the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) connector.
  1. Check for continuity between paddle shifter + (upshift switch) connector terminals No. 3 and No. 4 when pressing the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) and when the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) is released.
Is there continuity when pressing the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) and no continuity when the paddle shifter +(upshift switch) is released?
YES -
Replace the cable reel subharness.■
NO -
  1. Check for continuity cable reel 20P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to Step 7 .
NO -
Repair open in the wire between cable reel 20P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground (G501), or repair poor ground (G501).■
  1. Check for continuity between cable reel 20P connector terminal No. 14 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair short to body ground in the wire between cable reel 20P connector terminal No. 14 and PCM connector terminal A32.■
NO -
Go to Step 8 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  1. Measure the voltage between cable reel 20P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 14.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
NO -
Go to Step 10 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
  1. Disconnect PCM connector A (44P).
  1. Connect cable reel 20P connector terminal No. 14 to body ground with a jumper wire.
  1. Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal A32 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Check for loose or poor connections at PCM connector terminal A32. If the connection is OK, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck.■
NO -
Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal A32 and the cable reel 20P connector.■
