Engine Oil Pump Overhaul

Exploded View
Removal
  1. Remove the front wheels.
  1. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose.
  1. Support the engine with a jack and wood block under the oil pan.

  1. Remove the ground cable (A), then remove the side engine mount bracket (B).

  1. Remove the oil pump.

Inspection
  1. Remove the screws from the oil pump housing, then separate the pump housing and pump cover.
  1. Check the inner-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the inner rotor (A) and the outer rotor (B). If the inner-to-outer rotor clearance exceeds the service limit, replace the oil pump assembly.

    Inner Rotor-to-Outer Rotor Radial Clearance

    Standard (New):
    0.04−0.28 mm (0.002−0.011 in.)
    Service Limit:
    0.20 mm (0.008 in.)

  1. Check the pump housing-to-rotor axial clearance between the rotors (A) and pump housing (B). If the pump housing-to-rotor axial clearance exceeds the service limit, replace the oil pump assembly.

    Housing-to-Rotor Axial Clearance

    Standard (New):
    0.02−0.07 mm (0.001−0.003 in.)
    Service Limit:
    0.12 mm (0.005 in.)

  1. Check the pump housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance between the outer rotor (A) and the pump housing (B). If the pump housing-to-outer rotor radial clearance exceeds the service limit, replace the oil pump assembly.

    Pump Housing-to-Outer Rotor Radial Clearance

    Standard (New):
    0.100−0.175 mm (0.0039−0.0069 in.)
    Service Limit:
    0.20 mm (0.008 in.)

  1. Inspect both rotors and the pump housing for scoring or other damage. Replace the parts, if necessary.
  1. Apply liquid thread lock to the pump housing screws, then install the oil pump cover.
  1. Check that the oil pump turns freely.

Installation
  1. Check the oil pump oil seal for damage. If the oil seal is damaged, replace the oil seal.
  1. Remove all of the old liquid gasket from the oil pump mating surfaces, bolts, and bolt holes.
  1. Clean and dry the oil pump mating surfaces.
  1. Apply liquid gasket (P/N 08C70-K0234M, 08C70-K0334M, or 08C70-X0331S) to the engine block mating surface of the oil pump and to the inner threads of the bolt holes.
NOTE: Apply liquid gasket about 2.5 mm (0.098 in.) diameter bead along the broken line (A).
  1. Apply liquid gasket to the engine block upper surface contact areas (B) and the lower block upper surface contact areas (C) on the oil pump.
NOTE: Apply about 11 mm (0.43 in.) diameter and about 3 mm (0.12 in.) thickness of liquid gasket to the areas (B) and (C).

  1. Apply liquid gasket (P/N 08C70-K0234M, 08C70-K0334M, or 08C70-X0331S) to the oil pan mating surface of the oil pump.
    NOTE:
    • Apply liquid gasket about 2.5 mm (0.098 in.) diameter bead along the broken line (A).
    • Do not install components if 5 minutes or more have passed after applying the liquid gasket. Instead, remove the old residue and reapply the liquid gasket.

  1. Install the new O-rings (A) on the oil pump. Set the edge of the pump housing (B) to the edge of the oil pan (C), then install the pump housing on the engine block (D). Loosely install the dowel bolts (E), then tighten the 8 mm bolts (F). Tighten the 6 mm bolts (G) and the dowel bolts. Wipe off the excess liquid gasket on the oil pan and the pump housing mating area.
    NOTE:
    • When installing the pump housing, do not slide the bottom surface onto the oil pan mounting surface.
    • Wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.
    • Do not run the engine for at least 3 hours after installing the pump housing.

  1. Install the side engine mount bracket (A), and tighten the new bolt and nut (B), then tighten the bolt (C).
  1. Install the ground cable (D).

  1. Install the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose.
  1. Install the front wheels.
