SIL Troubleshooting

NOTE: Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS before doing this procedure. If any DTCs are indicated, troubleshoot them first, then do this procedure.
  1. Start the engine.
  1. Test-drive several minutes.
  1. Check the C SHAFT SPD in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
In any vehicle speed indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 5 .
NO -
Is the result OK?
YES -
Go to Step 6 .
NO -
Substitute a known-good gauge control module, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good gauge control module, replace the original gauge control module.
Is the result OK?
YES -
Go to Step 7 .
NO -
Depending on the result, replace the appropriate part.■
Is the result OK?
YES -
Go to Step 8 .
NO -
Depending on the result, repair or replace the appropriate part.■
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
Is a position proper?
YES -
Go to Step 10 .
NO -
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  1. Check the CLUTCH SWITCH (SIL) in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is OFF indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 12 .
NO -
Go to Step 28 .
  1. Press the clutch pedal.
  1. Check the CLUTCH SWITCH (SIL) in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is ON indicated?
YES -
Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the gauge control module, the clutch switch (SIL), and the ECM.■
NO -
Go to Step 14 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Disconnect the clutch switch (SIL) 2P connector.
  1. Connect clutch switch (SIL) 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with a jumper wire.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  1. Check the CLUTCH SWITCH (SIL) in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is OFF indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 19 .
NO -
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Remove the jumper wire from the clutch switch (SIL) 2P connector.

  1. Connect clutch switch (SIL) 2P connector terminals No. 1 and body ground with a jumper wire.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  1. Check the CLUTCH SWITCH (SIL) in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is ON indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 24 .
NO -
Repair open in the wire between the clutch switch (SIL) and body ground (LHD model: G302, RHD model: G251).■
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
  1. Disconnect ECM connector A (44P).

  1. Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal A43 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM.
NO -
Repair open in the wire between the ECM (A43) and the clutch switch (SIL).■
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Disconnect the clutch switch (SIL) 2P connector.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  1. Check the CLUTCH SWITCH (SIL) in the DATA LIST with the HDS.
Is OFF indicated?
YES -
NO -
Go to Step 32 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
  1. Disconnect ECM connector A (44P).

  1. Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal A43 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair short in the wire between the ECM (A43) and the clutch switch (SIL).■
NO -
Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM.
