Under Body Corrosion Check
NOTE: The damage must be attributed to either ‘‘in-service'' damage (wear & tear) or manufacturing defect and scheduled for repair with the vehicle owner.
To inspect and record on the check sheet in the service book any damage to external painted surfaces by:
-
Mechanical means (scratches, dents, chipping etc.) through use.
-
Chemical attack through environmental conditions (fall out, avian or insect eject etc.).
-
Manufacturing Failure e.g. poor adhesion.
-
Corrosion under external paintwork.
-
Perforation from the blind side of metal components.
-
Corrosion at edge and fold joints.
Carry out the corrosion inspection as detailed.
-
With the vehicle on a lift, examine the under body panels and PVC coatings for damage and defects as follows.
-
Inspect for corrosion damage using a lead lamp. The inspector should look for evidence of existing corrosion, replaced components/repairs and under body damage giving rise to cracked or damaged under body protection coatings.
-
If damage is found, the vehicle should be identified as requiring attention, the damage and location on the vehicle recorded.
