DTC Troubleshooting: 73-12

DTC 73-12: 
Open in the Left Side E-pretensioner Motor
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and wait for 10 seconds.
Is DTC 73-12 indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 5 .
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Disconnect the left engine compartment subharness 5P connector (LHD models) or E-pretensioner subharness 5P connector (RHD models) from the E-pretensioner unit.
  1. Check resistance between the No. 1 and No. 4 terminals of left engine compartment subharness 5P connector (LHD models) or E-pretensioner subharness 5P connector (RHD models). There should be 0−1.0 Ω.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Check the loose terminals and poor connections at the left engine compartment subharness 5P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 4 (LHD models) or E-pretensioner subharness 5P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 4 (RHD models). If the terminals and connections are OK, replace the E-pretensioner control unit and recheck.
NO -
Go to Step 8 .
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Disconnect left side wire harness 2P connector from the left side E-pretensioner motor.

  1. Check resistance between the No. 1 and No. 2 terminals of the left side E-pretensioner motor. There should be 0−1.0 Ω.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Open in the left engine compartment subharness (LHD models), the E-pretensioner subharness (RHD models), left side wire harness or left engine compartment wire harness; replace the faulty harness.■
NO -
Faulty left side E-pretensioner motor; replace the left side E-pretensioner motor.
