DTC Troubleshooting: 83-01, 83-02
DTC 83-01:
 F-CAN Communication Error (Regular Diagnosis)
DTC 83-02:
 F-CAN Communication Malfunction (Regular Diagnosis)
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  1. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Test drive the vehicle at 5 km/h (3 mph) or more for 60 seconds.
  1. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 83-01 or 83-02 indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 6 .
NO -
If any other DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTCs troubleshooting. If DTCs are not indicated, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the EPS control unit.■
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Disconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector.
  1. Disconnect the EPS control unit connector D (28P).
  1. Check for continuity between EPS control unit connector D (28P) and VSA modulator-control unit 47P connector terminal (see table).

Is there continuity?
YES -
NO -
Repair open in the wire between the EPS control unit and the VSA modulator-control unit.■
