DTC Troubleshooting: 81-02, 81-03

DTC 81-02:
Comparison Between the Yaw Rate Sensor 1 and Yaw Rate Sensor 2 Signal (Regular Diagnosis)
DTC 81-03:
Yaw Rate-Lateral Acceleration Sensor (Sensor Unit) (Regular Diagnosis)
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  1. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Start the engine.
  1. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 81-02 or 81-03 indicated?
YES -
Go to Step 6 .
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor and the EPS control unit.■
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  1. Disconnect the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector.
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  1. Measure the voltage between yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to Step 10 .
NO -
Repair open in the wire between the No. 6 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor.■
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

  1. Check for continuity between yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector terminal No. 4 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to Step 12 .
NO -
Repair open in the wire between the yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor and body ground (G503).■
  1. Disconnect the EPS control unit connector D (28P).

  1. Check for continuity between EPS control unit connector D (28P) and yaw rate-lateral acceleration sensor 4P connector terminal (see table).
