Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Rear Shelf Area

Rear Shelf
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.
NOTE:
  • Put on gloves to protect your hands.
  • Take care not to bend or scratch the rear shelf, rear bulkhead cover, and the trim.
  • When removing components, use the trim tools or equivalent.
  1. Remove these items:
  1. Fold both the rear seat-backs forward.
  1. If both the rear bulkhead cover and the rear shelf are to be removed from the trunk compartment, turn the high mount brake light socket (A) 45 ° counterclockwise to remove the socket.

  1. Remove the rear bulkhead cover (A).
    -1.
    Remove the belt hole lid (B) by releasing the hooks (C).
    -2.
    Gently pull back the front edge of the cover to detach the clips (D).
    -3.
    Pull up the cover to detach the clips (E) fastening it to the body. and the clip (F) fastening it to the rear shelf (G).
    -4.
    Lift the cover upward and forward to release each anchor rod (H) out through the hole in the cover.
    -5.
    Pull both rear seat belts (I) and rear center seat belt (J) out through the slits (K) and the hole (L) in the cover.
    -6.
    Carefully move the cover above the rear wheelhouse gussets (M), then remove it.

  1. Remove the rear shelf (A). Be careful not to damage the speakers.
    -1.
    Using a clip remover, detach the clips.
    -2.
    Lift the rear shelf upward and forward to release the rear hook (B) from the body.
    -3.
    Slightly warp the rear shelf to release both side edges from the side curtain airbag inflators, then pull it forward.
  1. Install the shelf in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    • Using a clip remover, remove any clips left in the body, and reinstall them on the rear shelf.
    • If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
    • Be careful no to damage the speakers.
    • When installing the rear bulkhead cover, slip the rear seat belt through the slits, and pass the rear center seat belt through the hole in the cover properly.
    • Push the clips and the hooks into place securely.
    • Make sure the high mount brake light socket is connected securely.

Rear Speaker Grille
NOTE:
  • Take care not to bend or scratch the rear shelf and the trim.
  • When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape to prevent damage.
  1. Remove the rear speaker grille (A). The left side is shown; the right side is symmetrical.
    -1.
    Using a flat-tip screwdriver wrapped with protective tape, pry up the notch (B) of the grille to detach the hook (C).
    -2.
    Pull up along the edge of the grille to detach the clips and the hooks (D).
    -3.
    Pull the grille back to release the hooks (E) from the rear shelf (F).
  1. Install the grille in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    • If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
    • Push the clips and the hooks into place securely.

Rear Parcel Shelf Dynamic Damper - With Premium Sound System
NOTE:
  • Put on gloves to protect your hands.
  • Take care not to scratch the body.
  1. Remove the rear shelf.
  1. Remove the bolts, then remove the rear parcel shelf dynamic damper (A). Take care not to hit the rear window when removing the bolts.
  1. Install the damper in the reverse order of removal.
