Dashboard Replacement

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.
NOTE:
  • Put on gloves to protect your hands.
  • Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard.
  • Take care not to scratch the dashboard, the body and the other related parts.
  • Take care not to bend the brackets.
  • When removing components, use the trim tools or equivalent.
  • LHD model is shown; RHD model is symmetrical.
  1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
  1. Remove these items from the dashboard:
Driver's side
  1. Detach the switch subharness connector clip or the harness clip (A), and the harness clip (B) from the dashboard.

Middle portion
  1. Detach the dashboard wire harness clip (A) and the harness clips (B) (with seat heater) from the center pocket frame (C).

  1. Remove the bolts (A) and the screws (B), then remove the center pocket frame (C) from the dashboard.

  1. Detach the audio wire harness clips (A) from the dashboard center stay, and detach the antenna sublead clip (B) from the center frame.

Passenger's side
  1. Disconnect the antenna sublead connector (A).

  1. Detach the audio wire harness clips (A), the dashboard wire harness connector clip (B), and the audio wire harness connector clip (C) from the dashboard.

  1. Remove the screw, then remove the passenger's dashboard duct B.
  1. Pull the audio wire harness (A) out from the audio-HVAC display opening.

  1. Disconnect the passenger's airbag connector (A), and detach the dashboard wire harness clips (B). Remove the passenger's airbag mounting bolts.

  1. Remove the bolts securing the dashboard (A).
  1. Lift up on the dashboard to release it from the guide pins (B) and the center pin (C) on the dashboard from the grommet (D) on the body.

  1. While holding the dashboard (A) away from the body, detach the antenna sublead clip (B) from the passenger's side bracket (C). Pull the antenna sublead (D) out from under the dashboard wire harness (E).
  1. Carefully remove the dashboard through the front door opening.
    NOTE: Do not rest the dashboard on its lower center cover opening, or it may be damaged. Lay it on its front or back.

  1. Remove the screws, then remove the front defogger duct (A) and both front dashboard stays (B) from the dashboard (C).

  1. Remove the screws, then remove the dashboard duct (A) from the dashboard (B).

  1. Remove the screws, then remove the passenger's dashboard duct A from the dashboard (B).

  1. Remove the screws, then remove the dashboard center stay (A) from the dashboard (B).
  1. Assemble the dashboard and the steering hanger beam in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
    • Replace the passenger's airbag mounting bolts with new ones.
    • Make sure the dashboard fits onto the guide pins correctly.
    • Make sure the dashboard wire harness, the audio wire harness, and the antenna sublead are routed properly and not pinched.
    • Make sure each connector is plugged in properly.
    • Push the harness clips and the connector clip into place securely.
    • Check for any DTCs that may have been set during repairs, and clear them.
    • A/T model: If necessary, adjust the shift cable
